Tonight I talk briefly about a kiirtan I wrote n the 70s' and how young players are discovering it and giving it new life, while for some of us, it represents a time in our lives long ago. Yet some of us who have been on the spiritual path for a long time are also discovering new things about ourselves  and the world. I see us all as being on the same path, just at different points.  

Tonight I speak with Madhumita, musician and naturopath, about homeoprophylaxis, something that many of us have not heard of. Kavita talks about the beauty and complexity of the Rarhi (North east India) khol drum tradition and its spiritual significance for the Rarhi drummer.  She also talks about the role of women in Rarhi kiirtan and how she was inspired to perform.  She ends by playing  and saying the bols of the first ever khol pattern that she learnt.

 Sonali Bhor is my favourite song of the new year. Composed by P.R.Sarkar in November of 1982, it is an early song (130) but so beautiful one that I return to again and again. Its very personal message rings true no matter who is singing it.
