Journey to Our Past

  On July 9 – 12, R’ Aaron led a group on a “Journey through Ashkenaz”, exploring 1000 years of Germany Jewry. On the first night, R’ Aaron spoke at the new K’hal Adas Yisroel , part of Lauder Yeshurun, in Berlin. He spoke about the centrality of work and effort in matters of Ruchniyos.

The last stop of the trip was to Auschwitz. After we left, on the bus to the airport, R' Aaron shared his final words with the group. It was a powerful perspective on the Holocaust - משפטיך תהום רבה. July 4, 2019

In Lublin, R' Aaron spoke about the Torah of Ishbitz and Lublin. What began with Pshischa and then Kotzk, leads to Mordechai Yosef Leiner breaking off and staring the Ishbitz dynasty. The great talmidim of Ishbitz are R' Tzadok HaCohen MiLublin and R' Leibela Eiger. July 2, 2019

On the way to Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin the beautiful and innovative yeshiva of R' Meir Shapiro. R' Aaron spoke about R' Meir Shapiro, his ideals, his life, and his yeshiva. July 2, 2019

On route to Lublin, R' Aaron spoke about R' Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, The Piaseczno Rebbe and how he was a revolutionary who began a rejuvenation of Polish Jewry which is felt till today.

In the Beis Medrash in Gur, R' Aaron learned a peice from the sefer Sfas Emes Parshas Korach Year 5636. July 2, 2019

On the way to Gur, R' Aaron spoke about the history of Gur, it's roots in Pshischa/Kotzk which broke away from the mainstream Chassidus. The original recording was lost and so R' Aaron re-recorded it later. July 2, 2019

After davening Shachris at the Nozhik Shul, the group went to the last remaining wall of the Warsaw Ghetto. R' Aaron spoke about the terrible state of Yiddishkeit in the Ghetto and the strength of those who held on strong. R' Aaron also spoke about the R' Yechiel Yaakov Weinberg, the Sridei Aish, and R' Klonomous Kalmish Shapiro, the Piaseczno Rebbe. July 2, 2019

On the way out of the Warsaw Cemetery the group passed by the grave of Ludoviko Lazaro Zamenhof, the creator of the language of Esperanto. R' Aaron spoke about the (misguided) desire of Jews throughout history to make the world a better place. July 1, 2019

Straight from the airport the group went to the Warsaw Cemetery. Among the thousands of kvarim are those of the Netziv and R' Chaim Soloveitchik. R' Aaron spoke there for a few minutes about the strong differences between them and how ultimately the machlokes lishem shamayim between the Netziv and the Beis HaLevi was miskayem with the Netziv and R' Chaim buried in the same ohel next to each other....

An introduction to history of Jews in Poland. Learn how the Jews arrived in Poland, and how they thrived and suffered. This introduction set the framework for the entire trip as it presented a snapshot of the 1000 years of Polish Jewry. July 1, 2019
