What do you do when God delays in answering you? It would be a typical human response to jump into action…to try and force things to play out how we want. But, the problem is not with God’s timing, it’s with ours. As we’ll hear in today’s teaching from Pastor Daniel, Abram experiences a delay from God…and his choice of whether or not to wait will affect what he hears from the Father.

God loves a cheerful giver. Even if you tithe, if you give…maybe in your heart you’d rather have stuff instead. That’s not a cheerful giver…it’s selfishness. As Pastor Daniel explains in part of this message from Genesis, when our actions don’t reflect our hearts there’s a disconnect. God gave His Son in love, and today we’ll hear how Abram makes a choice that reflected His heart towards God.

When you consider the broad view of your life, there is really very little that you control beyond the choices you make. In today’s teaching, Pastor Daniel follows Abram as he prepares to recover his nephew lot, who has been taken captive. Abram is just a man, but his total faith in God will dramatically affect what he is able to achieve. For us, with God, everything is brought under control.

It’s a hard thing, to own up to our mistakes. Our hearts want to make excuses for our transgressions against God, when what we should be doing is backtracking to the start of our relationship with Him. As we’ll hear in Pastor Daniel’s teaching today, when Abram recognizes his sin, he physically goes back to the place where God spoke with him. In repentance, he reconnected with his Father.

That unmistakable odor overpowers your senses, and you can’t pay attention to any of the beauty around you. Our sin can taint all the good in our lives in the same way. When that sin becomes the thing you focus on…the beauty drops away.

It’s our tendency, all of us, to be drawn to the charismatic leaders, the one with all the answers we’ve been craving. But, words that sound good don’t always contain wisdom. When a person in authority is challenging you, what is your instinctual response? For many of us, it’s to stiffen and stand our ground. If it’s not an issue of compromising our morals…it may just be an issue of submission. But, if we can’t humble ourselves in small situations…how can we submit to our Father?
