The Prophet Zakariyyah kept the torch of Mosaic law burning. He used to pray devotionally and preach zealously. His wife and he were the symbols of piety and righteousness. The family tree of Zakariyyah, Yahya, Maryam and Esa AS is closely linked. Yahya AS would later be related to Esa AS, as his mother, the wife of Zakariyyah AS, was the maternal aunt of Maryam AS.

Moses had been gone for forty days and his people were becoming restless, for they did not know that Allah had extended his time by a further ten days. Samiri, a man who was inclined towards evil, suggested that they find themselves another guide, as Moses had broken his promise.
