Into the Deep

Christ is never present in discouragement, negativity or pessimism. Let's say: It is the Lord! when things are not going accordingly. Together we can repeat: I believe, I hope, I love the Holy Spirit, because when we pray together our Lord is there.

Christ's incarnation took away the distance between God and us. He gives Himself to us daily in the Eucharist. Let's remember that "the Son of God became man so that we might become God".

Do we try to follow Jesus more closely during this week? Do we ask for a spirit of prayer? To be human is to be limited. We need prayer to do God’s will, without it we are like Peter.

Holy Week is a time to understand more profoundly the love of God. It is also a time to commemorate our salvation given to us by the sacrifice of our Lord on the cross.

During this Lent we pray for true sorrow for our sins. We can grow in our contrition by a deeper examination of conscience, to see our sins better and to foster sorrow. Do we have a superficial contrition? Let’s meditate our Lord’s Passion and be moved by the wounds of Christ.

Freedom comes from following God’s law, slavery comes from going against it. We’ll be free and holy only if we keep the commandments, if we love God above all else. Are we cheating or lying? During Lent let’s be totally honest with ourselves to bring to light what might be excuses that prevent us from getting closer to God.

What fruits does God want for me during this Lent? What are my vices? We need to find in us what is out of tune and pray for interior conversion to be closer to God.

Jesus embodies the perfection of humanity, providing us with the example of living the cardinal virtues of fortitude, prudence, justice, and temperance. Lent presents an opportunity for nurturing virtues, with prayer serving as the sunlight that fosters their growth.
