I'll Be Honest

Preached at a Bible Conf. at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Houston, Texas in 1983.

When many stopped following Jesus, He looked at those left and said, "Do you want to go away as well?" We see here that Christ wants our reaffirmation to Him. To declare as Peter did in John 6:68-69, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

The life of Jim Elliot was remarkable. He was a godly young man who lived an extraordinary life, and he paid the ultimate price; his life, to bring the gospel to the unreached. His life is a powerful example for Christians, especially young ones, to learn from and imitate.

It doesn't matter what shade of skin we have, but by reconciliation through the Cross, the door has been opened so that we actually have real communion with God and we can enter before Him. We are talking about the greatest realities of our identity. Your greatest reality is not the color of your skin. The true test of our love for other Christians isn't so much on how we love other Christians who we agree with on everything, but rather on how we treat and view other Christians who we don't agree with on every area of the non-essentials.

As believers we can be so grateful for the Lord's loving discipline that is bestowed upon our lives. Like a critical surgery that is needed, we've got to have it, and we are grateful for the surgeon. We must stay gospel-centered in our marriages. The more the husband grows in the revelation of God's patience towards him, the more he will grow in patience towards his wife and children. Impatience is reflective of our low view of God's patience towards us.

To walk in purity, the believer must not just focus on guarding themselves from the sin; but they must be actively pursuing Christ and being satisfied in Him. Our great Lord Jesus Christ went to the Cross and completed the work that was started. He made purification for our sins and then He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Christ didn’t do half a job on Calvary, He didn’t do 90% of a job on Calvary. Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe! Sin had left a fearful stain, He washed it white as snow.
