I'll Be Honest

Many times when God calls a person to go and do something, that person turns around and starts holding on to what he's got and where he is. When you do that, the life of faith is cut off immediately. You can't walk by faith when you're trying to walk by sight and hold on to where you are and who you are.

Some have said that Matthew 24 is the most difficult chapter in the entire Bible. This is the first of two messages in which an attempt is made to try to make sense of this difficult chapter. It is important to let Jesus Himself teach us what these verses mean.

This is the second of two messages in which Matthew 24 is explored. Jesus taught that His own generation would not pass away until the first part of this chapter was fulfilled. This is an attempt to show how that actually came to pass.

If we get our minds off of ourselves and get our minds on our brothers and sisters needs; and especially our minds in worship on the Lord Jesus Christ, a whole lot of problems that we're having would be gone.

Joy comes before obedience, rather than after. If you don't understand that, you will really be messed up all of your days. Joy is not the result of obedience, joy is the result of what God has done. If a believer who fights against sexual lust can but look and realize that resisting temptation here is but for a moment. Yet in a brief vapor we will be in heaven and satisfied with such glories in Christ that are not worth comparing to anything here. So in view of such truths as that, we must not grow weary in our fight against sin.

At times when someone asks, "How do I deal with the hiddenness of God?" it is not God hiding Himself from us, but our own sin or busyness and neglect of the Lord that is the problem. Are there so many things that "have to" be done in my life that would lead me to leave God out of the picture? Is excelling in school, at the cost of spiritually shipwrecking, the right decision?

Children, you may not have a big long record of sin like some of us adults do, but still you've got a lot of bad on your record. The wages of that sin is death in hell, but Jesus Christ came and died so that you don't have to suffer that hell. When we speak as Christians about "us and them", isn't the very nature of those pronouns divisive talk? God has not "swept our sin under the rug", but rather Christ has bore our sin and the punishment for it. Are there conspiracy theories out there? Of course, because the Bible speaks about a kingdom of darkness; and all humanity is either under the control of the devil or serving the Lord. Are there schemes and plots against Christians? Certainly. Yet those who are truly enlightened are the Christians! The rest of the world is in darkness and the grasp of the evil one.

If Jesus Christ is not the center of our message to the lost, then we have nothing that can change lost men's minds. Yet upon hearing of Christ, God may graciously open their eyes to see such a glory in Jesus that makes a man change his mind and repent and believe.
