In our text, Paul addresses a troubling attitude developing among a minority of believers in the Thessalonian church. While they had a strong reputation for brotherly love, some among them were selfishly exploiting kindness and embracing idleness. From this brief passage, we can identify three practical principles concerning the brotherly love that ought to flourish in the church.

In today's passage, Paul is overjoyed by the good news that the Thessalonians are still walking strong in the Lord. Both his anxiety and exuberance over their perseverance in the gospel is both inspiring and instructive – offering us four lessons to apply.

In the midst of persecution, the church at Thessalonica still flourished because the Apostle Paul sets the right example for the Thessalonians to follow as a bold proclaimer and as a loving parent.  It is not enough to bring others to Christ, but also to help them to become disciples of Christ.

The Church in Thessalonica became known throughout all of Macedonia and Achaia because of the example they set for all the believers. Paul encourages the Thessalonians for their Work of Faith, Labor in Love, and Steadfastness in hope in Jesus Christ.
