Hottest 100s and 1000s
Hottest 100s and 1000s
Since 1993, the Hottest 100 has been the largest annual music poll in the world. Countless acts have graced the chart, from Dido to Depeche Mode. We're going to talk about all of them. Hottest 100s and 1000s is a Sydney-based podcast hosted by longtime friends Adam Buncher, Andrew McDonald, David James Young and Nathan Harrison. They look back at every Hottest 100; and every song that has been deemed hot enough to be a part of it over the course of 20+ years.

Season 6, Episode 14: To Save the Digital World 04.10.2018 1:10:26
Our four digital champions once again face the digital challenges posed by the triple j hottest 100 of 1998 (only semi-digital at best); including keeping agony and irony fresh, fixing up some sartorial nomenclature and giving some Australian comedians tips on how they could cover a heartfelt Aussie classic. It's been one big week. SONGS COVERED 35. Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta 34. Bare Naked La...
Season 6, Episode 13: Um, Thread, My Dudes... 27.09.2018 57:56
@Hottest100s: I'm now hearing this meme that the top 40 of the 1998 triple j hottest 100 countdown features some really weird shit. @Hottest100s replying to @Hottest100s: Like, a "really probbo" Ben Folds cut, a song deliberately out to polarise the people of Australia, something hectic sad, A SKA SONG and literally 2 minutes taken from an Adam Sandler film. @Hottest100s replying to @Hottest100s:...

Season 6, Episode 11: Horny For Wales 13.09.2018 50:48
Judging the hotness of democratically voted hits from 1998? Sure. Judging the hotness of entire nations? Now you're talking. We also lay down the cardboard for some break-dance battles, set fire to some surfboards and get way too wound up by some anxiety-rock. Yeah, but mostly we just get horny for Wales. SONGS COVERED: 50. RUN DMC vs Jason Nevins - It's Like That 49. Hole - Malibu 48. Catatonia -...
Season 6, Episode 10: Yes Virginia, David James Young is Really Drowning Himself (Not Clickbait) 06.09.2018 59:10
In a bitter, jaded world, it's an episode to make you believe again. Maybe our imaginary friends aren't so imaginary. Maybe we'll stay punk forever. Maybe life is worth living. Maybe all the songs in the triple j hottest 100 of 1998 really are connected in some cosmic way. And most importantly, maybe when our host says he's conducting some dangerous and elaborate stunt live in our studio he actual...
Season 6, Episode 9: On Repeat 30.08.2018 51:03
As is well documented, music was first created when our neanderthal fam noticed how good donking their mates on the noggin with large bones sounded (its no coincidence we use words like 'beat' and 'hits', after all). We pretty much clocked it then. When you get down to it, all music has been pretty much the same since, as we document with this episode- same ol instruments, same ol feels, even a fe...

Season 6, Episode 7: The G Man 16.08.2018 59:33
We dedicate this episode to the real star of the show: the 108 metre tall building-chomping lizard we all know and love. It's a celebration of everything he's done- the time he fought fascism in the Spanish civil war, his hard-line stance against advertising and, of course, his numerous musical cameos. This one's for you, big G. SONGS COVERED: 70. Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This Your...
Season 6, Episode 6: Stardust is Coming Home 09.08.2018 1:00:33
Everyone has a price, right? You dish out the right scrilla and you'll get a car with arms, you'll get to play as Deej in your favourite video game, you might even get us to stop making this podcast. But can you ever get your favourite 90s French house project to release more music? In solidarity with the French government, we dedicate this episode to that hope. SONGS COVERED: 75. Rob Zombie - Dra...

Season 6, Episode 4: Baddies 26.07.2018 1:03:25
We're drawing a line on morality. Australian 90s bands that love each other? Goodies. The cast of Seinfeld? Baddies. Kangaroos? Goodies. One certain song we won't mention here but is in this episode? Maybe the biggest baddie of the season. Heck, we're probably baddies for this one too. SONGS COVERED: 85. Something for Kate - Harpoon 84. Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) 83. Superjesus...
Season 6, Episode 3: Fully Paired 19.07.2018 1:02:05
ooooooo yeah, baby. We've been wanting to make this kind of episode for you for a looooong time. We've been saving our most sensual banter and horniest songs just for this kind of episode. I think you know what kind of episode this is. The kind that calls for those other headphones. You know the ones. Go ahead, slip those on. Let's get down to it. Right after we both input the right pairing codes....
Season 6, Episode 2: @ us 12.07.2018 58:03
Alright, new season, new direction for communication: two-way, baby. In a bold and shamefully transparent strategy for more engagement, we're putting the call out on all kinds of things: Beck-fruit pairings, Godzilla, and who does the best cover versions and why is it Tom Jones? You know what to do. SONGS COVERED: 95. Beck - Tropicalia 94. Smashing Pumpkins - Perfect 93. Silverchair - Untitled 92....
Season 6, Episode 1: The Marge-Grover Divide 05.07.2018 58:04
They're back! Well, 3/4 of them anyway (and the replacement for the one missing is a pretty good stand in.) And although we start at the bottom of another hundo, there are still big songs and big things happening: we get David to Eurovision, we put black metal on the main stage at big day out, we write a hit heartwarming family film and yes, we dare to do the impressions nobody ever should. #seaso...
Season 5 Finale: THE BIG TEN (part 2) 31.05.2018 1:10:28
This is how the 1997 hottest 100 countdown ends- not with a bang, not with a whimper; but with lawsuits, woohoos, classifieds, whiskeys/vodkas/lagers/ciders and, most of all, songs that remind us of the good times. Allegedly. Still gargantuan, still iconic, still unmistakable. It's the second half of THE BIG TEN. SONGS COVERED: 5. Pauline Pantsdown - Back Door Man 4. The Verv...
Season 5, Episode 20: THE BIG TEN (part 1) 24.05.2018 1:10:28
Oh i'm sorry, is this podcast about animal husbandry now? Because it seems like we're about to talk about some GOATS! They're gargantuan. They're monolithic. They're iconic. They're songs whose names you couldn't possibly mistake. They're the ones you know and love. They are... THE BIG TEN ...well, the first half of them anyway. SONGS COVERED: 10. Jebediah- Leaving Home 9. Radiohead - Karma...
A Chat with Jebediah's Kevin Mitchell 12.05.2018 42:11
With our top ten episode still on the way- and kicking off with Jebediah- Adam has a chat with Jebediah's Kevin Mitchell (aka. Bob Evans). Exhibiting equal parts passion, humour and humility, Kevin generously discusses how he came to songwriting, what it was like to be in Jebediah, how Leaving Home came to be, how he was both encouraged and discouraged by some of the bands he toured with, what all...
REMIX '97: The Legend of F*ck Johnson and Friends 26.04.2018 1:30:07
This is the remix and we're remixing harder than ever before, baby- we're changing genres entirely. You'll still get our personal picks for the songs we'd have loved to hear in to the '97 countdown AND your feedback, but (proving this is the only podcast you could ever need) you'll also get to witness the birth of one legendary dwarf and friends. Roll up. We hope you enjoy the journey, but just in...
Season 5, Episode 18: Dork President 19.04.2018 55:34
Our beloved voting public; for a long time this podcast has been built on the solid foundations of nostalgia and brash opinions. But as we move into uncertain times, on the doorstep of 1997's top ten, we know that bold new leadership is needed- the kind of leadership that embraces self hatred, stands on basses, tells hung-over nannas to kiss our ass and lobs slice after slice of white br...
Season 5, Episode 17: FW: RE: FW: FW: RE: RE: RE: 12.04.2018 58:50
We may be FW:ing on some old riffs, but the RE:s to the first five of 97's top twenty are worth passing on to at least 7 people. Or you'll have 13 years bad luck. SONGS COVERED: 20. Season 5, Episode 16: Eric 05.04.2018 1:02:11
"It just sucks, man. School is crap. Susie won't text me back. My parents don't get it, like, at all. I dunno. Season 5, Episode 13: Socrates: the Hits of Summer 15.03.2018 51:51
I kinda love the idea that someone is going to find this episode after searching for their favourite ancient Greek philosopher- and look, he does get a run, but this is mainly four guys talking about songs that teenagers loved twenty years ago. At least I think it's still about that? SONGS COVERED: 40. The Bloodhound Gang - Why is Everybody Always Pickin' On Me? 39. Something for Kate - Capta...
Season 5, Episode 12: Refuse Your Illusion 08.03.2018 53:22
