SPOILER ALERT: We are spoiling the entire six episodes, but as Joe says in the intro, it is SO BAD that we don't recommend anyone watch. Just listen to us instead. In this special episode, the boys swing by Atlanta to check the latest TV iteration of Ghostface and the Scream franchise. Alas the "Deadfast Club" proves to be as uninspired as their attempts at metatextuality. This series has virtuall...

For the final entry in the Summer of Franchises, the boys grab Brian Particelli for a camping weekend at Black Lake. There they discover misogyny, bears and a profane Betty White…because they are firmly ensconced in a rom-com masquerading as a creature feature, written by none other than David E. Kelley. The boys attempt to break down the comedy to scares ratio (1:0), play the Hollywood spouse gam...

Hello Kiddies! The Horror Queers are joined by  Tales from the Crypt  expert Sarah-Tai Black to discuss the booby-filled 1995 banger  Demon Knight ! In what may be their most tangent-filled episode yet, they not only code Billy Zane's Collector as gay and Jada Pinkett's Jeryline (a name that  no character pronounces the same way) as a "soft butch" lesbian, but they also proclaim the queer icon sta...

It’s a maple leaf takeover! Just in time for Canada Day, Joe stacks the pod with both a Canadian film and a Canadian guest, Ariel Fisher, for another gang-up on Trace. The trio venture into the wilds of Toronto suburbia for a discussion of lycanthropy, the “horrors” of menstruation and how Katharine Isabelle can help facilitate the coming out process. Also up for grabs: Joe and Trace’s inability t...

In celebration of the second week of the Summer of Franchises, Joe, Trace and special guest Chris Eggertsen are headed to Romania…er…”Hollywood” to check out the fifth Chucky film. Chris and Joe gang up on Trace in a heated argument about what constitutes the “Big” horror franchises; they discuss out and proud gay director Don Mancini’s role shepherding the franchise for 30+ years, and why Jennife...

We're hopping in a 1938 Rolls Royce Wraith and driving to Christmasland so that we can cover the first three episodes of AMC's underwhelming adaptation of Joe Hill's (aka Stephen King's son) exceptional novel NOS4A2 (that's pronounced "nosferatu" for the uninitiated).  Why would you stretch 100 of the novel's 700 pages into a 10-episode prequel season? Does anyone care about Vic (Ashleigh Cummings...

Our Summer of Franchises begins by knocking on Death's door with the 2000 pseudo-slasher  Final Destination ! Joined by Gayly Dreadful 's Terry Mesnard, the boys look at the film that boasts a queer screenwriter (Jeffrey Reddick) and several gruesome Rube Goldberg-y deaths (and one surprise bus attack). Join them as they debate the ridiculousness of the name "Clear Rivers," the fact that the FBI a...

Despite the ordeal they suffered last time, Joe and Trace travel back to France to catch the premiere of Homocidal, the queer porno that everyone is DYING to be in!  Although Trace confesses he's not a huge Giallo person (and the boys fully expect to receive hate mail from fans), Yann Gonzalez's tale of a switchblade dildo wielding, gimp-mask wearing killer and the intrepid lesbian porn director o...

Mild Spoiler Warning Y'all ready to party in Sue Ann's basement?! For the first Patreon exclusive episode of June, the boys are discussing Blumhouse's latest horror film starring Octavia Spencer, Luke Evans and just a quick glimpse of peen. You should also prepare for a catfight as Joe and Trace do NOT agree on this film. Trace is completely entertained, calling the film a blast while Joe wishes M...

There's a queer zombie uprising in Berlin and the boys, plus special guest Kyle Turner, are on the case. The trio tackle Canadian director Bruce LaBruce's challenging and subversive mainstream genre effort with a discussion on camp, the distinction between art cinema & porn, and whether or not the titular Otto is a melancholic young gay man or an actual zombie. This episode is a must for any aspir...

Joe drags Trace back to Canada-land to re-visit David Cronenberg's oeuvre with  The Brood , an incredibly light-hearted movie about a woman who births deformed killer dwarves through an external womb.  This week, Joe goes through a lot. Not only does he imagine what his life would be like if David Cronenberg and David Lynch were his two daddies, but he also managed to stick his finger in an electr...

The boys are staying international this week, flying over to France to discuss  Calvaire (The Ordeal) , Fabrice Du Welz's contribution to the New French Extremity movement of the 2000s. Could they have discussed  High Tension ? Sure, but what fun would it be to make you watch a movie you've already seen? Topics at hand are the film's bestiality set piece, a rather intense (and rare) scene of male-...

The Horror Queers are playing their way into the world of video game adaptations with the 2014 film  Fatal Frame . "What? They made a movie out of  Fatal Frame ????", you ask? They most certainly did! Unfortunately, it never saw a North American release. Lucky for us (and you), it's streaming for free on YouTube! Sure, it is more of an adaptation of the video game franchise's themes than its plot,...

The first full length Patron exclusive episode of May has arrived and it takes the form of a clad in 70s plaid Zac Efron! That's right, we're talking about the Ted Bundy Netflix property...or rather the three competing narratives that this film tries (and therefore fails) to tell! There's a little singing, a little dressing down of John Malkovich and the Hollywood Foreign Press and questions about...

Not the bees! Not the bees! That's right, the Horror Queers are discussing Neil LaBute's camptastic trashterpiece  The Wicker Man , and they are joined by Consequence of Sound's Cap Blackard! Join the threesome as they discuss Nicolas Cage's "performance," the constant punching of women and the prospect of a remake entitled  The Wicker Butt . Plus, Cap graces the boys with her knowledge of Robin H...

Joe and Trace head abroad to Italy to walk Rupert Everett through his existential crisis in Michele Soavi's bizarro 1994 (or is it 1996?) zombie horror comedy. While both boys struggle with the bad dubbing, Joe is more appreciative of the film's mix of dry wit, philosophy and art history references than Trace, who reluctantly becomes more appreciative of the comedy as the episode progresses. Along...

In the second Patreon exclusive episode of April, the boys discuss the sixth instalment of The Conjuring franchise...or is it a random stand-alone since Warner Brothers has seemingly walked back on that designation? There's also discussion of the shoddy plotting, the film's treatment of POC and why Linda Cardellini is great, despite being the white lead in a bland appropriated story that deserved...

After 23 years of driving, the boys pick up Dead For Filth 's multi-hyphenate Michael Varrati en route to a charming motel run by Anthony Perkins' Norman Bates. The trio discuss the film's categorization as a long in-development sequel, a slasher released during the height of the 80s craze and a cash grab. Along the way they suggest that Meg Tilly's tough, but thankless "tofu" role as Mary is a mi...

Who would have ever thought a movie about a killer mirror could actually be A) good and B) scary? That's right, the boys are discussing Mike Flanagan's 2014 film  Oculus ! Join Joe and Trace as they gush (pun intended) over Flanagan's oeuvre and discuss the role a sibling (or siblings) can play in the coming-out process. Plus, the boys decide which killer mirror movie is better: Oculus  or Alexand...

In the first Patreon exclusive episode of April, the boys discuss whether a personal connection to the material is necessary to grasp the horror, Joe proposes that the material is "grief for dummies" and Trace goes to bat for Amy Seimetz's performance as Rachel. Other topics on the table: can this new film stand on its own feet, or is it doomed to suffer comparisons to previous iterations? How muc...
