Horror Queers

Happy (early) Friday the 13th, y'all! We're celebrating the holiday with a return trip to space (following our episode on Hellraiser: Bloodline last month) with a festive viewing of the much-maligned Jason X . Join us as we say hello to a cameo-ing David Cronenberg before traveling 4.55 centuries into the future to board the vessel Grendel . While aboard, we will lament the outlawing of hockey in...

The boys don their mullets and leather jackets for a one way trip to Arborville and something pink, purple and gooey! Along for the (motorcycle) ride is fellow Bloody Disgusting writer Meagan Navarro, who is a huge fan of the practical effects wizardry in what is arguably one of the best horror remakes ever. This film has EVERYTHING: small character moments, subversion of expectations, and a pleth...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on The Invisible Man (2020), Leigh Whannell's very well-received remake of the Universal Monster classic that tackles domestic abuse and gaslighting, and features an all-time performance by everyone's favorite *sigh* Scientologist Elisabeth Moss. Like what you hear? Head on over to www.patreon.com/horrorqueers  and become a Patro...

In honor of Trace's 31st birthday, we're closing out February with a discussion of one of his favorite movies: Zombeavers ! That's right, a movie that gifts us John Mayer in his feature film debut and one of the most salacious games of "Would You Rather" ever committed to film sends Trace into a non-stop flurry of giggle fits throughout the entire episode.  Join us as we discuss this 77-minute-lon...

You asked for it (well, at least one of you did), and so we are finally covering the listeners' choice that was selected from our 2019 Listener Survey! That's right, we're discussing Pascal Laugier's controversial 2008 film  Martyrs (aka the most anti-spoiler film ever made)! Big thanks to listener Brian Conmy for helping us pull the trigger on covering this masterful and deeply upsetting film. Ma...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on Blumhouse's Fantasy Island (2020), the entertainingly dumb OR boringly stupid new remake of the 1977 TV series. We're kicking off Women in Horror Month with a confusing and frankly boring erotic thriller about a threatening lesbian roommate, written by a gay man, for straight male audiences. Joining us for the ride are the two Amys (Kasio and Ketchum) of Double A Horror Highway , who help to unpack the film's mushroom cut hairstyles, portable computing devices and why neither Bridget Fonda or Jennifer Jason...

Anniversary month is dead! Long live Birthday month!  To get the ball rolling, Joe has selected a terrible (read: great) film from his beloved Hellraiser franchise. Of course he opted for the  fourth film - the one in space! - directed by none other than fake DGA moniker Alan Smithee (actually FX master Kevin Yagher). Folks, we have yet another super complicated production timeline, including a ru...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on Gretel & Hansel (2020), Oz Perkins' new gender-flipped, atmosphere heavy, plot-lite fairytale for kids. Like what you hear? Grab your first edition copy of The Iliad , because we're closing out our anniversary month by covering Rob Cohen's ( The Fast and the Furious, xXx )  The Boy Next Door , an erotic thriller that is neither erotic nor thrilling! Joining us for this riff-fest is noted  The Boy Next Door defender (and fellow Bloody Disgusting columnist) Matt Donato, and he's brought along a raw chicken for all of us...

Anniversary month continues as the boys head back to high school, bitches! Along with special guest PRIMO the ALIEN, we're digging into co-directors Lucky McKee and Chris Sivertson's remake of their own film, which is itself a franchise non-starter (Part One, you say? Show us the receipts!) Despite a killer opening, this film certainly did not "blue our balls" with its mish-mash of tones, weird pa...

The boys are making a return trip to Slovakia to discuss a film that  no one  wanted to guest on! That's right, they're discussing Eli Roth's controversial and (dare they say it?) feminist sequel  Hostel: Part II ! Join them as they discuss the rapid decline of the torture porn sub-genre between 2006 and 2007, the accusations of misogyny lodged against the film, and Roth's progressive decision to...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on Underwater (2020), the new K-Stew aquatic horror film that genre outlets seem to be loving, but we find ourselves underwhelmed. Hi! No, we really mean it. Hi!  After nearly a year of waiting, the time has come for Trace and Joe to dig into the best film in the Scream franchise and arguably the best horror sequel of all time.  Join us as we praise the film's dedication to further developing its main trio, its willingness to kill off Randy and, of course, Laurie Metcalf's totally unhinged performance as Mrs. Loomis (or is it...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on The Grudge (2020), the much hated attempt to reboot the franchise that has been described as boring, complicated and mean!  Like what you hear? Join us as we go over the results from the listener survey from back in November (it's more exciting tha...

Here's a sneak peek at our all new full-length Patreon bonus episode on the latest episode of Hulu's Into the Dark : "Midnight Kiss", which is quite possibly the gayest film we have ever covered on this podcast!  Like what you hear? Just in time for the last episode of the year before the holidays, the boys hit the time machine and travel back to Briarcliff Manor circa 1964 to party with the oppressed queers of American Horror Story: Asylum . Joining us for the fun is Vox 's Emily VanDerWerff, who actually recapped the series back in 2012! The second season of the FX anthology series is basically a Stefon skit: it has EVERYTH...

Just in time for the 45th anniversary of Bob Clark's iconic 1974 original film and the release of its second remake, the Horror Queers are celebrating the holidays with some eye bolas masquerading as Christmas tree ornaments in Glen Morgan's 2006 remake of Black Christmas ! Joining them for this festive event is Alex Wiggins, the Acquisitions Supervisor for World of Death, who shares his traumatic...

Now that Trace has officially recovered from our 50th episode festivities, it's time to deal with an escalating vampire threat in David S. Goyer's  Blade: Trinity , the whimpering conclusion of the groundbreaking (original) Marvel superhero trilogy. On the docket: why is a film filled with comedians so painfully unfunny? We speculate about the origin of the feud between Goyer and star Wesley Snipe...

The Horror Queers are celebrating their 50th episode with a Very Special Episode discussing.....pedophilia? And The X-Files ? If that sounds like a weird combination, it's because it is. Luckily, they have Trace's better half (i.e., husband) and X-Files stan Ari Drew helping them through this momentous occasion! What's the best way to reward your fans that have been watching your show for nine yea...

Everything is peachy fucking keen as the Horror Queers take a field trip to Reagan High to figure out the mystery behind Liz Purr and the mysterious jawbreaker lodged in her throat! In what is admittedly an unusual film to cover in a horror podcast, Joe and Trace grab their Big Sticks and dive into the legacy that Darren Stein's  Jawbreaker  has left behind. How did this critical and commercial fa...

It's time to hop aboard the Covenant and head over to Origae-6....oops! We mean this random mystery planet that didn't show up on  any  of our scans! But hey, it's probably fine, right? Joining us for our colonization mission is Drew Dietsch, co-host of the GenreVision and Fin Flicks podcasts! After kicking things off with a debate on who will work the hole and who will do the fingering, the trio...
