Names carry significance. This is why we sometimes call attempts to craft our own identity, “making a name for ourself.” But there is a danger in making your own name, and there is blessing and fruitfulness in accepting the name that God makes for you. What do we use to define or determine our identity? We are finite and limited, unable to create our own identity. We must shake off the false identities we have been taught in our lives and allow God’s word to define us.
