This week, our guest speaker is Chris White, Pastor of UTurn Carson City Youth...

Ephesians 6: On A Mission From God - We Stand Firm... 28.07.2013

We stand firm. Paul wraps up his letter to the Ephesian church with a solemn reminder: on our mission from God, we have enemies actively looking to sabotage us, oppose us at every turn, & attempt to take us out. These enemies are not people, political rivals, or military adversaries; rather, they are identified as the devil & the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. So, what are Paul’s...

Ephesians 6: On A Mission From God - Navigating Relationships 14.07.2013

As we've been trekking through Ephesians over the last several weeks, one of my takeaways has been that we Christ-followers are on a mission from God, & each of us are called to live for the praise of His glory in our local context - looking to do good... Basically, as Jesus' representatives, our role to do & be what Jesus would be "doing & being" if He were in our shoes. As I have been thinking t...

Ephesians 5: On a Mission from God 07.07.2013

I didn't play organized sports until I was about 10 years old - I can still remember the butterflies from my first trip onto the baseball diamond for tryouts for a REAL league. I'd played catch with my dad, but I'd never been a part of a baseball team, & I didn't really know what I should do when I made my way out onto the field... so I looked for someone who looked like they knew what they were d...

Ephesians 4: On a Mission from God - Be Like Jesus 28.06.2013

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been working through the first 3 chapters of the letter to the Ephesians – there are a few recurring themes Paul touches on that jump out at me: We are each called to live for the praise of His glory – namely, to make Him famous God, in His mercy has saved us by His grace through our faith in Christ, not by our works, so no one can boast about it We are God’s handiwo...

Ephesians 3: On A Mission From God - Fuel for the Mission 16.06.2013

In Ephesians 3, the Apostle Paul proclaims what he calls “the mystery of Christ.” This mystery, revealed at just the right time, is that ALL people (not just those of Hebrew descent) can become part of God’s family because of the gospel good news of salvation by grace in Christ (Ephesians 3:1-6). The mission from God Paul is pursuing is directed by this good news & God’s desire that all would see...

Ephesians 2: On A Mission From God - Embracing Grace 09.06.2013

There’s a section of Ephesians 2 that has been bouncing around my head: God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurabl...

Ephesians 1: On A Mission From God 02.06.2013

Today, we're beginning a 7 week series through Paul's letter to the Ephesian church. Truly, this is one of my most favorite books in the Bible as it highlights the lived out mission that Christ has given to every one of His followers - to live our lives on purpose - whether we're at work or play, with friends & others, to intentionally live for the praise of God's glory. Our text for today is Ephe...

Blessings in Times of Famine - Redigging the Wells... 26.05.2013

A guy I was talking with last week was lamenting the state of the economy, the pitiful job market, & the general doom & gloom that he (& many others) have been living under since the crash of 2008. He lamented, "I guess we'll just be going through a lot more of these difficulties until there is some kind of turnaround. And that is IF it even happens..." At that moment, I felt a strong 'nudge' from...

Waiting... for the Promise #5 19.05.2013

Right before Christ ascended into heaven, He told His disciples to do two things: -Go back into Jerusalem (the city where, a few weeks prior, Jesus Christ was crucified) -WAIT for the empowerment that comes with the promise of the Holy Spirit. Jesus knew the significance of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christ-follower - the mission He gave them in Matthew 28:18-20 wasn't one that could (or c...

Waiting for the Promise #4 - Finding Rest 28.04.2013

One of the most significant aspects of waiting for the Lord can involve ceasing from our activities & work - a.k.a. regularly disengaging from the demands of life, our never-ending to-do lists, & the constant input of media, music, & noise so that we can come to rest in our body, soul, & mind, thereby recharging, refocusing, & renewing our relationship with God. A great way to do this on regular b...

Waiting For The Promise #3 - Active Waiting 21.04.2013

The phrase, “wait for the Lord” can sound like a call to passivity, a challenge to sit, bored & doing nothing, (a la a visit to the doctor’s office or sitting at DMV), until such a time as the Lord God is finally ready to act on our behalf, & give us insights & instructions for who/what/where/how He wants us to engage our world around us. This doesn’t give us a picture of what Biblical ‘waiting fo...

Waiting... on the Lord... in faith 14.04.2013

We're continuing in our "Waiting For The Promise" series - today we're talking about the significance of Waiting on the Lord, in faith, & what that might look like lived out. Our text for today begins in Psalm 27.

Waiting For The Promise #1 07.04.2013

The Resurrection was POWERFUL. But it didn't EMPOWER the disciples to carry out the mission Christ gave them (Check out Matthew 28:18-20 ). Instead of sending the disciples immediately into their neighborhoods (& beyond) to carry the message, Jesus told them to go back into Jerusalem to WAIT for the promise: God's Holy Spirit would come & provide them with all of the fuel necessary to be able to n...

EHS #6 - Renewing Our Minds 17.02.2013

A couple key elements of growing to full maturity in Christ involve the continual process of surrendering every area of our life to God & being transformed by the renewing of our minds through God's Word. Our...
