Hillside Covenant Church

In this second week of our Journey to Jerusalem we encounter one of Jesus' most well-known teachings and Parables, often called the Parable of the Good Samaritan.   While this parable is well-known, it is often not really understood.  This Sunday we will peel back the layers of Jesus' teaching to see there is far more there than a simple platitude of kindness.  This parable gives us wisdom for how...

Join us this Sunday morning at 10:00 AM for the launch of "Journey to Jerusalem," our fall message series from Luke chapters 9-19. In the passage we're studying, Jesus interacts with three would-be disciples, giving them straight talk about what it means to join his band of apprentices. There's more than meets the eye in Jesus' strong words, and actually more encouragement too. So please join us f...

In wrapping up our series on Psalm 119, Pastor Jane DeYoung looks at why the psalmist extols the Law so enthusiastically. What laws is he referring to? Then she examines Jesus’ teaching on the Law, which leads us to the key that unlocks the psalm for us 21st century followers of Jesus. Come worship with Hillside Covenant Church as Jane DeYoung teaches from Psalm 119, Matthew 5 and 22:35-40 & J...

Join us for our "A Song for Summer" series. Growing up in Southern California, my parents took me to church on a regular basis. I grew up knowing that there was a God, that Bible had stories about Moses and King David and even grew up knowing about Jesus. It was until my Junior year in High School that I went from knowing about God to knowing Him in a personal way. I realized, God did not want to...

Join us for a second detour from "A Song for Summer." In this message I fill out the "picture" I have of Hillside in the "notebook" of my imagination. Wanna help realize Hillside's Be Light in the World vision? It's as simple as this: Come to church, chat up an old friend, draw out a new person in conversation, compliment a kid, sing with abandon, lean into the prayers, and listen carefully to the...

Join us this Sunday morning at 10:00 AM as we continue in a series of studies from Psalm 119. We will be taking a closer look at the second of the 22 sections of Psalm 119 (verses 9-16). It’s the only section that begins with a question, “How does a person keep his/her way pure?” We will explore what a pure way looks like, why we should desire it in the first place, how the word of God and the pur...

Reflecting back on the ‘Resurrection Surprises’ sermon series, we briefly talk about the highlights that really stuck with us. Then Pastor Jane unpacks this phrase from the May 22 sermon: “Flawed, forgiven, and being transformed”. We are all children of the Fall who lost our intimate relationship with our Creator in a moment of wrong thinking. God’s plan for restoring this relationship rested on t...
