The Mission On the occasion where He saved Zaccheus in Luke 19, Jesus proclaimed that the reason He had come was "to seek and save that which was lost." His was a rescue mission. As the apostle Paul put it in 1 Timothy 1:15, "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." Our salvation, however, demanded that payment be made for our sins, which is why Jesus died on the cross. He paid the awful price for us, so that by believing and following after Him, we're able to receive forgiveness and eternal life. That's the gospel.
