This week the Torah teachers begin the discussion of Daniel chapter 4, Babylonian King Nebudchanezzer’s second dream, and what might be called “paganism, then and now”.

Daniel chapter 3 is one of the most famous stories in the life of that prophet, and certainly of “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego,” whether or not we remember their Hebrew or Aramaic names (Rob encourages us to!)

The teachers continue the study into the final chapters of the Books of Kings, with the siege of Jerusalem and the beginning of the Babylonian captivity, under Nebudchanezzar. II Kings 24, into chapter 25.

The teachers finish II Kings chapter 23 and the life of Josiah, the last good king of Judah prior to captivity in Babylon, but there are still more trials, and even ‘political intrigue’ before they get there. And enter Nebudchadnezzer…

The teachers ALMOST conclude the look into II Kings chapter 23 this week, and one of the best of the kings of ancient Judah, Josiah (or YosheYahu). And again, it’s the parallels that are most striking. Like it or not, the same idolatry that he was trying to wipe out is no less dominant today.
