Text it to me 09.07.2023 3:29
The Police used the add9 chord brilliantly - I still think it sounds great. Text it to me . Support the show
The Bubble 08.07.2023 5:28
There are references to individuals working within " a bubble" - I certainly recognise it - but we all work in a bubble - I think mine is smaller than most. There are a few people I'm in contact with in my work environment and even fewer outside - oh! dear - one very small bubble . Support the show
Downhill from here..... 07.07.2023 4:51
I like these phrases that can be viewed in any way you like. Downhill from here can mean things get easier; but it can also mean things get worse. Pete is 60 today - Happy Birthday - take it whichever way you like - But I would always take the positive option if I were you.. Support the show
Terezinha de Jesus 06.07.2023 1:14

Yevgeny Prigozhin v's Vladimir Putin - by the time this tune comes up things will perhaps be a little clearer - or maybe not Support the show
Who's the Mug 04.07.2023 3:32
I recorded this on the 24th June - when Yevgeny Prigozhin seemed to be taking on Vladimir Putin - and then suddenly withdrew. Watch out - who's the Mug ? Support the show
Maracatu 03.07.2023 1:27
This is the first of two short Brazilian pieces I've enjoyed teaching this term . They are both arranged by Eustaquio Grilo and featured in the 1980's Guitar Magazine - now long defunct. Support the show
Not Again 02.07.2023 3:32
I get very stuck on certain ideas - and those of you who listen regularly ( thank you so much ) will recognise a certain obsession with particular chord sequences. The F/G in or in this case Gb/ Ab - sounds terribly clever ( Its not - I just moved the chord one fret up the guitar neck ). Support the show
Onion Gruel 01.07.2023 4:17
I'm in charge of cooking this week - having a look at a bit of a saving on the grocery bill. Here we go..... Gruel is a food consisting of some type of cereal—such as ground oats, wheat, rye, or rice—heated or boiled in water or milk. It is a thinner version of porridge that may be more often drunk rather than eaten. Historically, gruel has been a staple of the Western diet, especially for pe...
Greasy Pole 30.06.2023 3:28
Thats a funny expression - I heard myself using the term about a particularly ambitious colleague .. My goodness this is a rough recording - talk about garage - I think this one is definitely shed .. Support the show
Elians 29.06.2023 2:50
A tune using the pre-programmed guitar sounds - which are interesting although they don't sound much like a guitar. Support the show
Icarus 28.06.2023 4:27
The son of Daedalus - the man who flew too close to the sun - but there was so much more to his life - goodness it was complicated . I'll stick to the man who flew too close to the sun . Support the show
Smile 27.06.2023 3:28
The summer does this .... I start thinking about this perfect world where people are pleasant to each other - just a smile does it all Support the show
Melodie 26.06.2023 2:04
An eight bar tune - written quite a long time ago - which I've never dug out before. I've had a go now - but maybe it was left where it was because I had nowhere to go with it ... Support the show
Theme 25.06.2023 5:09
Happy Birthday Sue. This track is Bob Dylan inspired . Although his film music for Pat Garrett and Billy the Kidd is 50 years old now - the film came out in 1973 - I really liked the music and of course there is the much overplayed Knocking on Heavens Door within the soundtrack. Its good to hear it in the original form though .. Support the show
It is What it is ... 24.06.2023 2:10
This is right up there with "Going Forward" " You're a Star" and even "Well done" as being one of the most irritating phrases in the English language right now. It is What it is ...seems to suit the piece Support the show
Duet for One 23.06.2023 1:48
A piano piece in which I was sufficiently concerned about the quality of my piano playing ( or lack of it) to feel I needed a string accompaniment. Support the show
Taking a Stroll 22.06.2023 2:56
A piece walking around a blues progression originally composed for a student to play . Support the show
Keep a Cool Head 21.06.2023 2:56

Nature or Nurture ? 20.06.2023 3:35
Continuing on with the discussion I had with this really interesting musician - we argued about "genius". Nature or Nurture ? I think genius is when that combination of natural ability coincides with an individual is nurtured in that same area where they have tremendous natural ability. I've never seen it close up but I have worked with some children of outstanding natural ability (...
The Stomp 19.06.2023 3:28
This is a children's song - not to sing - but for an old fashioned "Music and Movement " lesson. Each time the tune changes the class changes direction - always walking ( or stomping) in time with the beat. Good for a sleepy Monday class. Or a sleepy any time of the week class. By the end of the tune utter chaos reigns... Support the show
Buon Compleanno 18.06.2023 3:36
Rob's 31st. Have a good one . Support the show
Resolution 8 17.06.2023 2:24
A piece comprising of six eight bar phrases interchanged over 64 bars. It doesn't resolve at the end, although that was the intention . A couple of clumsy edits in there too - but I'll return to it again at some point. Support the show
What Fate has in Store 16.06.2023 6:05
I had an interesting conversation with a very talented musician last week. He's worked at a much much higher level than I ever have - but - and I was surprised - we share a similar view of the music world ( and probably most of the performing arts) and how it is obsessed with appearance - at the complete neglect of substance. Stranger on the Shore 15.06.2023 2:24
Acker Bilks great clarinet hit - My Dad's favourite tune. Happy Birthday. Support the show
