Bristol Airports parking charge, like so many other airports, is a bit steep. The first song I learned was Roger Miller's 1964 song King of the Road. The lyrics are about a traveling manwho, despite having little money (a "man of means by no means"), celebrates his freedom, describing himself as the "king of the road" I bet he couldn't afford todays rents.. Support the show

The sad news of the passing of John Mayall came through on the 23rd July when this track was recorded. With his Bluesbreakers he seems to have been a mentor for so many musicians in addition to all the great music he created. What a life  Support the show

I'm not from what is called a " one Horse town" - a place with not alot happening - but we brought our children up in a pretty remote rural village.  Any sort of place with people in it - let alone a city - was pretty difficult to adjust to . Why I didn't foresee that is a mystery - we did move in to a town as the boys got older but it maybe had two or three horses - not a trem...

This is not a Bhundu Boys type tune ( I wish it was) its just a reflective comment on the ability of the band to self destruct in the 1990's when they had the world at their feet. There was a great reference in a sporting commentary to an old phrase you used to get from sports coaches years ago. When you got an injury the coach would offer the "magic" sponge then encourage you to "walk it off" or in some cases "run it off" - only exceptions were ligament damage and broken limbs !  Support the show

Sometimes you just get a check on how lucky you are ... I occasionally have work that takes me into run downs parts of towns or cities.  Today was that day (8th July - delay on podcast episodes ) - If they had added the word " Park " to Lipson Road it might have made it a bit better.  A converted late Victorian house carved up into three dingy flats and on a miserable afternoon I visited...
