Growing and Witnessing

The Israelites participated in the Passover meal while in Egypt at God’s command. It signified his election of them as his people and their deliverance from slavery in Egypt. God met their needs just as he meets ours in Christ, our Passover Lamb. Join us as we see he grace and mercy of God in this first Passover.

Jesus entered Jerusalem as a humble king. He was the one about whom the prophets foretold, and he brought with him a kingdom of peace, joy, salvation, unity, and access to God. Our call is to bear fruit in keeping with his kingdom. Join us as we hear from Mark 11:1-26.

Moses simply didn’t want to go to Egypt to fulfill God’s will for his life. Moses came up with 4 different excuses to cover up this fact. Each time God countered with a solution. Oftentimes, we do the same with God. We simply don’t want to do what he’s called us to do. But, our excuses are no more legitimate or acceptable to God than Moses.

Moses asked God a legitimate question after God had told him that he would be the one to go to Pharaoh to demand the release of the Israelites. He wanted to know who it was that was sending him to deliver them. God said, “I Am.” This covenant name of God gives us a tremendous amount of information about who God is.

God’s people cried out for deliverance. He heard them; He knew their pain; and, He acted to deliver them. The Israelites were physically enslaved by the Egyptians, but we are enslaved by a much stronger and more evil master, sin. These verses encourage us to cry out to God in the confidence that He will deliver us in Christ Jesus.

Moses would become the great deliverer of God’s people from the oppression of the Egyptians. But, before he rose to prominence he had to go through a period of preparation in the wilderness. God had to prepare him for the task.

The book of Exodus is the story of how a faithful God delivered His people from the mighty and oppressive hand of an Egyptian Pharaoh. Paul concludes his communication with the congregation in Thessalonica by asking them why they aren't busy serving Christ. Faith seeks understanding. Those who encounter Christ and seek to know him more fully through faith will find him — the one for whom their hearts long. This is by the design of God. Everyone has the responsibility to seek him out, but only those who actually do will find him. The Parable of the Sower is a great illustration of this great reality.

Depression is a common human experience. It hurts, but there is hope in the midst of it. As we struggle with downcast and downtrodden spirits, the Lord is gracious to us. Nothing can change the wonderful reality that Christ died for us and saves us in his grace. God is, therefore, for us in all circumstances. Rest in him.

Should I beware of amassing riches? Yes. We store up treasures on earth to satisfy our insecurities and fears. But storing riches in this life is a foolish endeavor. We are to use our resources to bless others, while living open-handedly.
