The word pit usually means an undesirable place or condition. A pit is not a place where we want to spend any time. The Psalmist says a pit is a place where God cannot hear your cry. Isolation is horrible, and we must remember that we are never truly alone because God is with us. Brother Long uses stories of people who found themselves in a pit to teach us how to survive life in the pits.

The discovery of the Empty Tomb has meant more that mankind than any other discovery in history. After all the disciples had witnessed, the empty tomb was almost beyond their understanding. Jesus had told them what would happen, but seeing it in person baffled them. They believed in resurrection but could not comprehend that it would happen now. Jesus left four things in the grave that are notable...

God’s people have a desire for spiritual things. They try to satisfy this in many ways, but one characteristic is missing from many people that will keep them from having true spirituality. 1 Corinthians 13 describes this one thing: Love. It is easy to love someone when they are lovable, but the real test of love is how we react when people are difficult to love. Our human nature does not want to...

We love the prosperity gospel. We readily receive messages about blessings and increase. Often we hear the preacher talking about blessing, but we look at our own circumstances and see storms and trials, not blessings. We can complain about our life and where we are, but even in dire circumstances, God wants us to increase. In our text, Israel was facing 70 years of Babylonian captivity. But even...

Our text says he was tempted in all ways like we are. He faced loss, disappointment, betrayal, and so much more. We can take all to Him, and He can encourage us from a place of understanding. He knows where we are and what we are going through. Jesus will meet us with grace, and his judgment will come from a place of mercy. He came to earth in fleshly form and experienced all that we do, so we can...

On-demand is the expectation of the day. We have come to expect things we want immediately, and when there is a delay or interruption, we become irritated. That expectation leaks over into our spiritual life. God is capable of immediate. The Bible is full of stories of miraculous healings that happened instantaneously. But time is of no consequence to God. According to second Peter, one day is lik...
