In this third sermon on the Church and the State, we talk about why we should seek to see a Christian ethic promoted within our society and that the way to live in a society in which people disagree with our convictions is to be filled with grace and truth.

Who we are as God’s people determines our purpose and practice in this earthly kingdom. We have been called by Jesus to be free servants and exiles, and that status determines how we respond to the governing authorities and why we respond in those ways.

As we seek to be clear about the relationship between Christians and the State, Paul provides a clear command: Live in subjection to the governing authorities. He then helps us to see why and how, as well as if this is always the case.
