Jesus took our sin seriously. So seriously, that He died on the cross for it. As we see in Mark 9, Jesus wants us to take our sin just as seriously as He does. He calls us not only to be aggressive, hostile, and ruthless with our sin, but also to be humble, kind, and intentional with how we model His example to others.

In a world that is always fighting for our attention, we more than ever need to focus our eyes on Jesus. We must work to keep our focus on the coming glory of Jesus, the Savior who suffered for us. In Jesus' transfiguration, we see a glimpse of that coming glory and a great reminder of who truly deserves our attention.

Jesus spoke of how to be His disciple––take up our cross and follow Him. In taking up our cross, it will involve losing the life we want to have the life that's best. As Jesus asked, "What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?

We are broken, undeserving, and desperate before the Lord. This is how we know we need His grace. Thankfully, we see that Jesus is in the business of giving grace to those who are desperate for it. We must humbly and desperately implore the Lord for His grace in our lives.

Our lives are dictated by what our heart is centered on. In order to honor the Lord is His power and authority, we must have hearts centered on Him.

Jesus not only walks on the waters, but each wave must submit to His authority. This is the Lord we follow, one who submits nature to His will and works to soften our hearts to Himself.    

We see how much power and authority Jesus has by how He is able to heal death and disease. But have we given Him authority over our lives? We must be willing to engage when Jesus meets us. Accept His agenda and timeline. And trust His perfect timing. Then we will have handed authority over to Him.

He now calls us to join Him as servants who share His News! During the months of January and February, we will be teaching through chapters 5-8 in a series called "The Servant King with Authority." The #1 battle in our lives is the battle to secure enough time in His presence with an open Bible and a tender heart…eager and willing to hear and follow His voice.  Every other battle in our lives is dependent upon the outcome of this battle.

When considering how God would save the world, none would have thought He'd pick a young virgin girl to be the vessel that delivered our Savior. But He did! And through that delivery, His astounding message of hope and grace would come. Now, 2000 years later, we respond to that message with a simple faith.

As members of God's family, we are invited into the family mission - overcoming the world by the glory of Jesus.

We stand before God as if we were Christ, because Christ stood before God as if He were us. And that is why we're all welcome at the Thanks-Giving table of the Lord.

Serving others is a primary way to show Jesus' love. But serving doesn't just help other people, it also meets our deepest needs of the soul. Jesus is all about transforming us as we serve others.

This week we are kicking off a new series called "New Family, New Identity." This is a series about "discipleship." Discipleship is the stated goal of Jesus and His mission in Matthew 28.

Jesus is ALWAYS the best at describing the nature of God. Today we hear from the mouth of Jesus that God is ALWAYS at work, ALWAYS working deeper than we are aware of, and is ALWAYS present and available to us regardless of season.

The whole body of Christ equipped and working is what makes the body grow! We are all gifted to serve each other with the gifts God has given us as we grow together.

Though Jesus is consistently resisted and opposed, He never stops offering His grace to the world. All authority and power are His, yet He continually calls us into His joy and calling.

Something is tragically wrong with our world. Even the best things are ultimately broken and disappointing. We have a craving inside of us for true and lasting happiness. A craving for love, beauty, accomplishment, adventure and pleasure. But in the immortal words of the great philosopher Bono "We still haven't found what we're looking for." Today we jump into a brand new series on the book of MARK. We see right away that see that the Gospel of our Servant King must be proclaimed, prepared, and presented for all.
