Proverbs is more than just a bunch of one-liners to be thrown nonchalantly around our lives. God has a specific purpose, audience, and foundation in mind for the book and in reading it we should ask ourselves where our wise beginnings are.

The psalm is divided into four sections. The first three deal with different attributes of God as they relate to the psalmist: His omniscience (vv. 1-6); His omnipresence (vv. 7-12); and, His omnipotence as the sovereign Creator (vv. 13-18). Faithful believers should find themselves moved to song by who God is and what he does. We praise him because he is righteous in character, he is creator, he is ruler, he is our protector, and he is our hope.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

The way to happiness is through a life lived according to the Word of God, and the way to destruction is a life lived in disregard of Scripture. Things cannot satisfy us. Paul’s closing words remind us of our calling as a church. We are a family that acts in love for one another and shares in the Lord’s work. We serve one another and the Lord as One community that has been marked by the love of Christ as we wait for the Lord’s return.

In light of the reality of the resurrection, we must ask ourselves, do we long for heaven and our own resurrected bodies? Paul's clinical explanation of how the resurrection works should create in us a longing and anticipation for that day when Christ returns.

Sin is the ultimate problem of the human race. The Cross of Jesus Christ is the ultimate answer. In rising from the dead, Christ is victorious over sin. When we trust His work on the Cross, our sins are washed away. Our sin is forgiven.

Paul rebukes the Corinthian church for its divisions, specifically for the way they are practicing the Lord's Supper. The Church fails to properly consider the implications of remembering Christ as He is proclaimed in the Supper. Paul even says that their meetings do more harm than good.
