Our culture has connected our identity as a person with what we do for a living. We value people based on what they can do and the value they add to society. God doesn't operate that way. Even if I am not educated, talented or trained to do anything ‘special’, if I will make myself available and stay surrendered to Jesus, he will use me to change the world.

Jesus left us with one mission: Go and make disciples. We are not called to keep our faith to ourselves, we are called to share it. This doesn’t mean forcing it on others. It means living like Jesus in our world and inviting others to join us. Making disciples is about helping others connect with Jesus and experience lasting life change through him.

Life with Jesus is about more than just getting ‘cleaned up.’ It’s about being made new. That requires confession and repentance. We’re good at confession. In our culture it’s almost a virtue to ‘confess’ what we do. But repentance is a whole different matter. We need to confess our sin and then repent from it if we are going to follow Jesus.

Some of us need to get busy DOING what Jesus called us to do. We spend a lot of time talking about what we believe, but many of us don’t actually live it out. Talk is cheap. We need to obey Jesus and engage our world with His love, grace, and mercy as we go and make disciples.

‘If God is so good, why is there so much suffering in our world?” That’s a question a lot of people ask. It’s a valid question. But instead of assuming God isn’t good – or worse yet – that God isn’t real, what if we considered that God understands our suffering because he became one of us and he is already dealing with the problem of suffering because he is a good and loving father?

When it comes to prayer, we sometimes wonder just exactly how we’re supposed to do it. Many of us tend to overcomplicate it or we struggle to stay focused enough to pray well. But Jesus shows and tells us how we should pray. When we follow his example, not only do we get it right but we also begin to pray with real power.

We all have many things we should pray for, things we need and things we want. But ultimately, if we are going to make an impact for the Kingdom of Jesus, then we need to make sure that we pray for the things Jesus wants us to pray for. When our prayers reflect the heart of Jesus we will pray for God’s will and God’s kingdom to move forward here in our world.

Prayer is sorely neglected among American Christians today. This is partly because we are intimidated by it or we think it’s more complicated than it really is. But prayer is much simpler than we make it. Prayer is nothing more and nothing less than taking the time to have an intimate conversation with God.

The Christmas season can bring out the best and the worst in us. And it all starts in our minds. The things we do are first thoughts we think. Most of us tend towards negativity but God can rewire us for thoughts of joy. When we choose to focus on good and allow God to work within us Christmas will be merry and bright.
