Many years ago in another iteration of my life, I used old carpet to create a flower bed. On today's Garden Bite I share ways to rid your area of weeds without using chemicals, mixing in some natural elements to create a soil "potpourri" and some suggestions on the flowers to create a cut flower garden. 

I talked about this "new" fruit shrub I saw in a catalog a couple of years ago, and boy howdy has the Honeyberry bush become very popular! While it's been around for some time, it's now getting a lot of attention. In my zone 4 area we generally start saving seeds in mid-October. Native plants work best in terms of continued viability and remaining true to the original plant but you can also save seeds of cultivars just don't expect the new plant to look exactly the same! I have lamented the two Black Walnut trees my neighbor has planted on our property line since the Fall after I moved in and my yard was LOADED with walnuts, squirrels and loads of planting nuts everywhere! Porcelain berry is an invasive vine dubbed the August Weed of the Month by the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture. It's berries really are aptly named and quite beautiful but the vine can strangle out native plants. It's been found naturalizing in the county I live in.
