I had Avin from The Grief of Politics back on to discuss another round of gaming layoffs. In the end it is very depressing to read these stories week-in, week-out, but that doesn’t take away from the great games that I’ve played and truly I want to thank all the developers out there for their hard work.

This is just a look at things I have been playing to chill out between big reviews. I also played a bit of the Contra demo, (Yes, it has a demo) with my wife. It really took me back to yesteryear. Also, I never thought I’d say this but I can’t believe I’m actually liking a JRPG. And FF 7 at that. Let’s talk about all of it.

’m really happy with how the whole package of this game came together, from the writing to the voice acting and of course with its message of grief and how different people deal with it. When this game was announced, I kept an eye on it. Now that I am playing it I’m happy to say, at least in the early hours, that this game is great, and the stories of grief and ghosts that Don’t Nod have developed here is something that is truly shaping up to be something special. Enjoy.

This week I talk about a demo I played as part of Steam Next Fest. This game is very important to the developer, Abubakar Salim, who introduced it at the Game Awards on December 7th, 2023. He specifically talks about trying to get over the death of his father and shows off the game. I played the demo and give my impressions.

Microsoft recently announced that they are laying off 1900 employees. Avin from The Grief of Politics and I talk about the cost of layoffs, and what this will mean for Microsoft in the feature. January 27th, just happened to be International Holocaust Remembrance Day. My wife I talk about a movie this time, The Zone of Interest, and what we thought of it. It was a pretty heavy movie. Some light spoilers FYI.

I see the same thing time and time again. Whether it’s books, movies or games. People seem to show grief using the same tropes over and over again. The new game I’m reviewing seems to do a trope that I’m kind of getting sick of. Let’s talk about some of them.

The first review of the new year. I talk about God of War: Ragnarok free DLC Valhalla. Everyone seemed to be calling this Kratos goes to therapy and well, those people are right. Not only does this directly discuss the grief of Kratos’ past, but it also has some pretty great added lore things for the original PS one era God of War.

Finally, something no one asked for. And the awards mean even less. Just kidding I go over all the games I was able to complete this year and decide what my GotY for last year was. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

This is too much of a common story this year. But the fact that it happened right before Christmas, to so many people is depressing. I’ll talk about the recent news and go over more in-depth next week with Avin Carroll of The Grief of Politics.

It’s happened a few times when I totally do a 180 on a game. I started out thinking that I didn’t like this game and that it was terrible. But the last chapter of the game really changed my mind. I’ll talk about everything this week. Full Spoilers.

I just talk about things I’m very excited about and things that make me happy this episode. We should all want more of that in our lives. Enjoy.

So, it was a bit of a rant this week, but the Alan Wake Remaster is great. It had me a bit depressed because well, when someone takes a game (about 20hrs)to talk about how writing is somewhat or maybe painful, and you know what is your writing or creative endeavor actually doing to you. Yeah, a bit short but sweet this week.

I totally missed Alan Wake when it originally came out. So, I’m going to Remedy that(see what I did there). In all honesty, I love the tone and style of this game. Everything feels slightly off, let’s see where to twists and turns go from here.

Sometimes you have to take the time to reflect on what is going on around you and take a break. I’ve been playing Potion Permit for about a week now and I have to say it is great for a game to focus on anything other than combat. Let’s talk about it.

Everyone is this game is dealing with the death of a loved one or the reconciliation of grief itself. I thought I was going to play this game for fun and it turned into so much more. Let’s talk about all of it.
