Gabba Gabba Huh?
Welcome to the Gabba Gabba Huh? Podcast, featuring the best of The Carolinas' punk, alternative, hard rock, and heavy metal from the past 40 years. While the main podcast (Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks) will be more converstional and interview style, while "Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio" will focus on the music, with some background information on the songs and bands featured. Most songs will be digitized from original vinyl, cassette, or CD sources, thus the quality will vary, but will be rather true to the original form. Hosted by Mike Phillips from Van Huskins

This week, I talked to Patrick North, singer and keyboardist for Longshot Odds out of Columbia, SC. We talked via zoom, and then Facebook Messenger, about how a lost final exam led to his love for music, his previous band, You , Me, and Us, the Columbia scene, River Monster Records, and Longshot Odds new album, plus so much more! You'll get a few peeks behind the curtain on this one as well. ...
Talks! - Episode 27 - Jeff Williams (Biggy Stardust, The Dead Kings, Stop Talking) 28.10.2020 2:02:42
This week, I brought my bandmate, Eric Huskins, along with me to interview, not just Jeff Williams (formerly of Punished, The Dead Kings, and Biggy Stardust), but also members of his current band (Stop Talking), Travis Lee Overcash and Terry Hudson! We had a blast sitting in Travis' garage talking about Stop Talking, as well as Jeff's past bands (some of Terry's too!), the scene in...
Talks! - Episode 26 - The Flight Risks 14.10.2020 1:57:18
This week I sat around the fire pit with The Flight Risks and ended up with an episode as chaotic as their music! We talk a lot about how the band dealt with the loss of (drummer) Brett Butler, how Tommy's Pub is family, picking back up with a new drummer and looking forward, dry erase boards, how punk rock won't get you laid, and much more! Audio challenges aside, this may be my favor...
Talks! - Episode 25 - Jeff Clayton (ANTiSEEN) 07.10.2020 1:40:34
This week I visited the man himself, Jeff Clayton of ANTiSEEN, and had a conversation about his musical origins, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Repo Cheapo, the music scene itself, Japanese culture, and so much more, amongst the nature in his backyard (see if you can identify all the birds that make an appearance). This is an episode where I get a few stories in as well, but the talk always goes bac...

Talks! is back with an "extended cut" on this new episode with Gus Engstrom of Horse Thief, GRIDS, and, currently, powertake0ff! We talk about his involvement in the nineties scene, his late start playing music, speculate on the scene post-covid, and so much more! I plan to have Gus on again in the future, as his knowledge of the scene is vast and he's such a great guest! Be sure to...
Radio - Episode 21 - Live Archive: X-Periment 23.09.2020 33:53
While I had intended to have a Talks! episode for you this week, my interview I had scheduled is being re-scheduled, and so you're getting another radio episode this week! And it's another Live Archive show! While this still won't be a regular occurrence, it was the easiest thing for me to throw together, and this is a set I couldn't wait to share anyway! This one sounds so goo...
Radio - Episode 20 - Live Archive: My So-Called Band 16.09.2020 31:37
Hey! Bringing a new style of radio episode this week! The "Live Archive" series will be full live sets by local and regional bands from years gone by. I don't have a whole lot of material to work with at the moment, but I will definitely be looking for more! This also won't be the default format for Radio, but will be sprinkled in from time to time. I'm really excited to s...
Radio - Episode 19 02.09.2020 1:48:09
This week's radio episode is the last of my "successful" facebook live sessions from July 25. In the time since, I've had nothing but problems and have shelved the idea for now (though I expect to make another attempt in the near future and maybe do it regularly again, but likely less often). This one's chock full of great music, so put it on, crank it up, and enjoy. Not s...
Talks! Release Series 5: The F-use (Matt Estevez) 28.08.2020 41:26
In the middle of another "break", I talked to Matt Estevez, singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer, songwriter for The F-use! He's releasing a new single today, and you have to hear it! I talk to Matt about how he developed a love for music that's taken him through bands with his brother to From the Gun, through music school, and now re-inventing his own band, The F-use! He may no...
Radio - Episode 18 19.08.2020 43:05
This week, as I take a break from interviews, I'm trying a different format for Radio! If you're a subscriber to the Patreon, you've heard the great outtakes from my interviews, but if not, you'll get a little taste here! I've mixed outtakes with songs related to those episodes (as well as included a couple of songs from bands I haven't talked to yet), to make this a...
Talks! Episode 23 - Travis Lee Overcash (Trash Room, The Flight Risks, Stop Talking) 12.08.2020 1:57:28
This past weekend, I drove to Earnhardt country to visit with my friend, Travis Lee Overcash of Trash Room, The Flight Risks, Stop Talking, and numerous bands from the past that we talk about on this episode! From his first drum set, using hubcaps as cymbals, to his latest project, the Overcash land we recorded on has been the backdrop to most of his story (and what a wild ride this one is!). Plen...
Talks! Episode 22 - Brandy and the Butcher 05.08.2020 1:18:28
This week I talk to Columbia, SC band, Brandy and the Butcher about how they got together, their previous bands, and their upcoming record, Dick Circus! This episode was fraught with technical difficulties in the beginning, and I also got the whole band as a surprise, so while it didn't go exactly as planned, it turned out better than I had anticipated (though we completely forgot to talk abo...
Talks! - Episode 21 - Sunday Boxing 31.07.2020 1:45:20
For this episode, I sat down with Sunday Boxing at their practice room... the first GGH episode recorded in person since the covid shutdown! We did our best to social distance and had a great time talking about their musical journeys, our love for classic rock, when we expect to be able to play shows again, their new singles (the first of which released today), and more! This one was a challenge...
Talks! - Episode 20 - Jonathan "Battleship" Hughes (World Famous Milestone Club) 22.07.2020 2:06:51
This week, I talk to Jonathan Hughes and his wife Stephanie about, not only his musical journey, but we also talk about the hemorrhagic stroke he suffered almost a year ago and his road to recovery. We really didn't get around to too many Milestone stories, but we're saving that for later! This one goes back and forth a little, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. Also includes a...
Radio - Episode 17 15.07.2020 48:49
Gabba Gabba Huh? Radio is back and in a familiar, shorter (but not too short... I went for longer songs this time!), easier to digest format! While this one is following the old format, I recorded this one mostly live! Not a true facebook live, but this one was just like I was broadcasting on the radio with the songs played live as you'll hear them, and only minimal editing my stuff between....
Talks! Episode 19 - Trey Spears (The Walbournes) 08.07.2020 1:35:34
After a few weeks off, Gabba Gabba Huh? Talks! is back! This week, I talk to Trey Spears from The Walbournes, Graveyard Boulevard, and formerly of Skipper the Lion. We talk about Trey's first stage appearance at 10, the evolution of The Walbournes, Graveyard Boulevard as an influence and another outlet, about how Covid-19 has effected the band, and much more! This one probably has the most se...
Radio - Episode 16 (Facebook Live, 6.27.2020) 03.07.2020 2:12:44
Note: I apparently made a last minute edit/mistake that threw some things off by a couple of seconds, and as it is there's no easy fix! For now it is what it is, but I'll probably fix it soon as it's bothering the crap outta me! I'm coming back next week with a full length Talks! episode, but with this one I'm caught up with my recorded Live radio sets! Does that mean thi...
Radio - Episode 15 (Facebook live!) 01.07.2020 1:55:49
Back again with another recording of a Facebook live event. I'm still going on Saturday nights (well, probably not July 4... but... maaaaybee?), so come join me for music and me tripping over my words at times! Some of this is a bit reverb-y, but I'll try to figure that out before the next stream (I replaced the songs that sound like they were run through a phaser, so you can thank me fo...
Talks! Release Series 4: Laguna, Inc., "Start of It All" 29.06.2020 39:03
Hey! I'm back with Talks! earlier than expected! While the longer, regular version of Talks! will be back next Wednesday (look for TWO more radio episodes later this week), today I'm featuring a new band, Laguna Inc., and their ep, Start of It All. While this is not a new release, it is a recent release that has been mostly overlooked due to the timing of the release and the shutdown of...
Radio - Episode 14 "Live! AMA" 24.06.2020 1:57:29
This week, I try something a little bit different! I let you ask me questions and it went... well, better than the following week (you'll see... just less questions)! If you haven't hung out with us on Saturday nights, you should check it out! Very interactive, as you can see from this episode, and you get to hang out with some of your favorite local musicians and music fans, in a covid-...
Radio - Episode 13 LIVE! 17.06.2020 2:03:58
As I hit the first week of my break from Talks! episodes, I'm giving you a peak into what's been going on over at Facebook on Saturday nights during the Covid-19 restrictions! This episode is packed with music and will keep you rocking for two solid hours! You'll get more of this next week, along with a little more "talk" as I introduce "AMA" to the mix. Keeping...
