From the Middle

#112. Join us as we catch up on the discussions of things we have recently been watching and would recommend! But first, heed Dillon's advice to get to Dairy Queen to order a Blizzard with as many extra fillings as you like. It's been a long year and you deserve it. Kendall watched Space Jam: A New Legacy, Dillon shares a morsel of his Tangent content on Loki, and Kory was into the Bo Burnham: Ins...

#111. With over 16,000 followers on SoundCloud, samsin is an artist who paints with music. Both our iterations of intro music have been generously provided by him and we were excited to have a chance to interview him for this episode. We find out he shares some of our geek interests and can talk Star Wars with excitement. This bleeds into the bulk of our discussion surrounding the music scene in t...

110. Should they tip? We begin this episode listing classic movies we’ve been told we should watch but regretfully haven’t. We also reference old movies we like to dust off at times. Kory finds a flying man from his backyard. Paramotoring is apparently a serious hobby. We won’t be trying it. Dillon talks animated Star Wars. And finally we discuss curbside pick-up which has become the new normal ev...

109. Happy Independence Day, America! Kory and three hundred thousand of his friends spent the days surrounding the long weekend camping on the hot pavement outside of BMV locations. Otherwise, we generally had decent celebrations despite the humidity. Kendall’s beloved cooler is the only thing which didn’t make it through. This brings up an interesting discussion of things we have lost but regret...

#108. The confusing world of unspoken rules is what this episode turns into. Etiquette, trust, decency, and understanding are things that come as presumption to many of us. The problem is these values don’t always align when talking about things like sharing donuts at work, so we decided to solve that problem. Before we do, we first learn from Dillon about The Friendship Onion which is a new podca...

#107. We never claimed to be smart. If we did, then it was a dumb thing to say. This episode is a topical one with things we feel are normal everyday things but we just cannot seem to understand. If you have knowledge of thermal dynamics concerning how ceiling fans can be efficient or if you can order a fancy drink from Starbucks with the proper cadence, then you have one up on us. The most fun th...

#106. Our collective streaming has seen an uptick since our last potpourri episode. This especially applies to Dillon as he shares and recommends some of what he's been into. Kory has finally partaken in film the old fashioned way: in a theater! He talks about that experience. We then solve the debate of fanservice vs interpretation vs writer intent as Kory shares his love for behind the scenes co...

#105. The language is unconfined in this episode. We don't mind it, but ye might. We won't judge you if you don't judge us. Now onto this week's episode! Midnight Agent RAW and Okami, combined they become Super Media Bros! Traversing through films, television, pop culture, and gaming, they bravely took a dive into the middle to report their adventures. We asked them about the podcast world and the...

#104. Is that a queen bee in your pocket or are you just happy to be a fly on the wall back in the studio for another episode of From the Middle? Turns out it's a bee? Cool. Well, we're glad for another week of conversing in person. For all the entomologists out there we also talk about ant wars and cicadas as they emerge from their underground homes. In the DIY corner, Kory talks how he handymann...

#103. Our old friend, Greg Dillow, joins us as fourth chair to chat up another laid back conversation. He joins us IN STUDIO! This marks the first time we have recorded in person since COVID showed up and ruined everything. And man, catching up was a bit more fun. With Greg around, our resident Godzilla expert, we talked a bit about that world in light of the new film, Godzilla vs. Kong. Speaking...

#102. Patrick Mettle is a licensed clinical counselor for Open Arms Counseling in central Ohio. Mental illness is an issue close to many of us yet we often find ourselves lacking in understanding of its medical and overall health implications. As a man who comes highly recommended to clients and has trained other professionals, he was a wonderful and generous resource for us. From recognizing ment...

#101. Podcasting 101 - Introduction to Media Production, Syllabus. 1- Why is the number system such that a beginner's course is labeled as "101?" 2- Kendall's son appears on AFV. 3- Kory has a wild weekend riding an electric motorcycle and taking his wife to urgent care to get stitched up (don't listen on your lunch break). 4- Midterm. 5- Mother's Day talk. 6- There's a suggestive computer chip sh...

#100. Cien de Desde el Medio en Cinco de Mayo! Happy Cinco de Mayo, Happy May the Fourth week, and thank YOU for 100 episodes of From the Middle! We were determined to make it this far, and as much as we enjoy chatting among the three of us, it is the loyal listening crowd that has become the joy and encouragement to reach this goal. We decided to celebrate 100 by looking at our 99 favorite moment...

#099. Dillon shares how you can listen to him geek out on Marvel's Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Kory kills himself gaming, and Kendall sent strangers a video of his entire house. Since context is important, we share the roll out of our newest content formats on YouTube via Midbits and Tangents. You can basically take that to mean short content and deep dive content respectively. Check out the Yo...

#098. Happy spring, everyone! Hope you haven't winterized the snow blower yet! Seriously, we have had a taste of spring in the middle of America, and we're already gearing up for the season. Dillon is all about that Bose, grilling, and spring football. Kendall is on the hunt for the perfect cold beverage to enjoy after he tries to figure out the chemistry and biology of grass. Kory is enjoying wat...

#097. Tom Richmond is an artist, cartoonist, caricaturist, and illustrator who has spent the better part of two decades illustrating for MAD Magazine. He also is a family man, loves many things geek culture, and, nipples aside, has a professional quality Batman costume. He's our kind of guy. As such, it was an exciting moment for us to get a chance to chat with him. More specifically, it was fun f...

#096. Happy Easter, friends! We begin by recounting how our holiday weekends went along with stories from Kory's travels, which brought up some interesting conversation about the thrill of driving someone else's toys, stage lighting, and re-learning social skills in a world slowly opening back up. Also, we admit to the weird things we do when no one is looking. Do you sing musical tunes when you'r...

#095. Dillon's favorite number, 95, accompanies this episode. Shout out to the little defensive tackle from northern Ohio! We begin by sharing our vaccine status and what that means for us in the near future and what the experience has taught Kendall about his physical coordination. Then we bring back our avian discussions as we try to save the birds and educate the world on the issues of homeless...

#094. Matt Teegarden is the host for 614 Magazine's new video series, Tasting Columbus. Matt holds a Ph. D. in food science which is accompanied by a charisma which makes him a joy of a guide through today's food scene, but also makes him an interesting and informative interview. We love food on this podcast and Matt was kind enough to give us some of his time to answer questions about what food s...

#093. Happy St. PaDDy’s Day! We hope you’re St. Patrick’s Day is as green as Kory’s underwear. Yep. We talk underwear...more than even we expected we could. But hey, when a man puts on a new pair it’s exciting! Also, did you know the Grammy Awards happened? We didn’t. We did, however still talk about that but concluded you should get your Grammy takes elsewhere. You come to us for things like lamb...

#092. Everyone anywhere near our overlap of podcast topics is giving deep dives into MCU's WandVision. A "middle" approach would be to discuss the series so a child can understand it. So what did we do? We asked some kids questions about what they thought! Not too far from a young view of MCU you'll find Kendall. There's irony to the fact that he's been binging MCU material recently and mostly for...

#091. We've been off to see the wizard and now we tell the tale! Spencer Saylor, owner of The Wizard of Za in Columbus, Ohio, has had a 2020 to remember. From Instagram foodie to pizza chef and restaurant owner, he experienced a business be born and grow to local notoriety within a year. We do talk pizza eventually, but Spencer already has a wealth of experience to share with all of us who have dr...

#090. Do you have a particular brand of gummy bears that you prefer? Do you have a fur grandbaby? Do you have experience with the new gimmicks that are selling Barbies? Well, Kendall does, Kory does, and Dillon does respectively. And if that's not enough to tickle your curiosity, we also talk about how social media is ruining the way people interact. You know what we mean: egg yolk firmness. We th...

#089. Time to get silly! We take a moment to wind down from a couple of big time interviews to hang out with each other and see what comes out of our mouths. The result gets off to a weird start and we are not ashamed even if Kendall should be. We then discuss how winter has taken over much of the country, laundry, then Dillon shares what's probably the best news of his life since the birth of his...
