When the school kids accidentally send Miss Beadle on a runaway trip around Walnut Grove, Caroline steps in as the new substitute teacher. A late start student, Able MaKay, is introduced as the episode’s second storyline. While threats of washing mouths out with soap has curbed some of the schoolyard taunts, Caroline is determined to show Able MaKay his full potential. It’s as simple as ABC.

Charles surprises Caroline with a week long second Honeymoon in the big city of Mankato. However, this is her first time being away from the girls. Will she be able to enjoy herself or become a self-saboteur? Back at Plum Creek, It’s not Home Alone on the Prairie as the girls are left in the care of that old “Wildcat from Tennessee”, Mr. Edwards. Everything will be fine, long as the girls remember...

Olga Nordstrom is being left in the dust due to some LLD (Leg Length Discrepancy). And Papa Nordstrom’s over protective attitude isn’t helping the situation. Meanwhile, a shove from Nellie, as a Town party party favor, allows Laura to make a new friend. Caroline sets to task setting up a Country party while Charles tries his hand as a footwear designer.

One of Walnut Grove’s senior residents, Mrs. Amy Hearn, has one want in her life: a visit from any of her THREE grown children. With Charles and Doc Baker aiding and abetting, What's a mother got to do to see her family... Drop Dead or at least pretend to?

“Mary. Mary. Mary.” Laura is smitten with the newest kid at school, Johnny Johnson. However, finding fat grubs for fishing or throwing a stone isn’t enough to impress him. He’s too busy looking starry-eyed at Mary. And Mary...she’s only interested in her studies. What’s a girl like Laura suppose to do...throw herself into the creek?

Who's that breaking out windows in the city of Mankato? The Ingallas are reunited with their friend from the Prairie, Mr. Edwards. Caroline attempts to play matchmaker while Mr. Edwards has to face some hard truths regarding his own past. Is Walnut Grove ready for this “wildcat from Tennessee” or will it’s lack of a saloon drive him away?

When it rains, it pours....then hails. Charles heads out seeking work away from Walnut Grove and meets some friends along the way. Caroline has driven oxen to break soil...now she’s going to rally Farmers’s wives to resurrect some wheat. The Ingallas refuse to lose the fight against winter starvation.

Caroline tries to lead by example when she encounters Nellie’s mom, Harriet Olson, but she might need to rethink her strategy. In the second half of the made for tv movie pilot…the dangers of living on the prairie are felt even more. But whatever dark clouds come looming, the Ingalls are always working towards a silver lining.  Until that silver lining shows up in the form of soldiers on horses.
