We spend a lot of time focused on building the areas of our life that are seen and appreciated by others...yet Jesus teaches us that it's the unseen foundation of our lives that determine the course, destiny, and health of our life. He even tells us specifically what to build our house on...obedience to His teachings. Do we trust Him and His wisdom to actually follow through on that advice? 

Pray through the last few verses of Romans 8.

Jesus tells us that we cannot serve two masters...so what has become your ultimate concern? What occupies your imagination, your daydreaming, and motivates your actions? This role belongs to God alone and when something or someone takes the place of ultimate concern, everything gets upside down.

In the sermon on the mount Jesus warns us about looking for approval and attention from other people...especially when it comes to our spiritual life. In fact, he gives us the antidote to this kind of self-edifying attention-seeking behavior...the Lord's Prayer.

You've heard it said...but I say... Oftentimes, we throw around words like "love" and "hate" without really thinking through the implications and what we are actually meaning. Join us as we discuss biblical love, who our enemies are, and how we should treat them.

We love to focus on our outward appearance and our observable behavior; however, Jesus tells us that our intent and inner heart matters. If we took his words seriously, how would it transform our attitudes, our emotions, and our very thought life!?

Jesus had some pretty specific and poetic instructions for how his followers should engage in the culture they found themselves in. However, we don't often take these instructions seriously and rather choose fight or flight instead of the hard work of being salt and light.
