In this slice of FreshBread, we reflect on Jeremiah 8 verse 19. The people of Israel were in crisis and a wave of sickness (of the spirit) was taking hold. In our time, it is a crisis of a mega-illness times of crisis the enormity of which is hitherto unparalleled. In these times we can trust tht whether spirit or temporal there is no disease beyond the Balm, the Great Physician is here!

A look at the pains in the life of Moses through the lens of leadership and service

A look at the life of Jacob as he struggled on his way to victory.

A look at the life of Abraham as he navigates the new found relationship with God. He had some missteps but he learns to trust God and know him more.

A look at the life of Paul and the adversities he encountered while serving. He surrendered his will and saw the power of God.

In this slice of FreshBread we continue to engage the psalmist as he wraps up the imagery of the Lord the Shepherd caring for his people sheep. In this verse, Goodness and Mercy present as divine helpers, not to fill the gap he cannot reach but as part of his eternal plan to perfect (fulfill/carry out) his purpose (word).

In Psalm 23:5 the Psalmist speaks about his comfort in God. He is reminiscent on standing in the valley with uneasy feelings because at any moment the enemy might pounce, but instead of anxiety, he has abandon because a table is spread and any enemy on the prowl will watch.

We often emphasize the image of the valley of the shadow of death and that the real threat is really fear more than and actual danger because it’s a shadow, but the valley is a vulnerable place to be, certainly for sheep and as much for people. It’s a low place, and a risky place...

On this slice of FreshBread we discover The Shepherd for the sheep as the one who sees the unseen and knows the unknown... we are interdependent in all areas of our lives so we should depend on him

The Shepherd who sees the unseen and knows the unknown meticulously guides us away from the rushing water and the dangerous water falls to still waters where we can rest.
