Today is the feast of Saint Leopold Mandeesh, born in AD 1866 he later went to Italy to join the Capuchin Franciscan order. Even though Saint Leopold suffered greatly from aliments he was known for being very kind and lenient in the confessional.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick lived in Britain but was captured as a teenager and sold as a slave to an Irish chieftain. It was as a slave in Ireland that he discovered his faith.

Father reads some profound words about prayer from a theologian, who lived around the year AD 200, named Tertullian. One of the key elements of Lent is fostering an increase in our prayer life.  Prayer is very powerful.

The word “lent” is an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “spring.”   In a similar, Lent is a time of renewal and springtime in our hearts. We are called to till the soil of our soul and make it ready to receive the graces God wants to give us this Easter.

We are all in a race, a race through life to union with God. Saint Paul makes many running references in his letters to his fellow Christians. It takes a lot of training to be able to run a race so let us keep training this Lent to be able to run the spiritual race.

Today is the feast of Saint John of God, a solider who, after returning to civilian life, repented from his many sins in the military and opened up a religious goods store and helped care for the sick and suffering.

Today is the feast of two saints who died in North Africa, saint Perpetua and Felicity. Saint Perpetua was a young mother and Saint Felicity was pregnant when they were arrested for being Christian. Eventually they were executed for their beliefs.

Today, since it is the second Sunday of Lent, we hear about the story of the transfiguration in the Gospel. Just has God claimed Jesus as his beloved son you also were declared by God as his beloved child at baptism. Let us live the transformation we received at baptism.

Today is the feast of Saint Casimir, a Polish prince who is the patron saint of both Poland and Lithuania. Saint Casimir lived a holy life of generosity and used his position of power to bring peace and always stayed close to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
