Today is the feast of Saint Januarius, a bishop who was martyred around the year AD 300. One of his relics is a tube of his blood which has a very interesting trait that science can’t explain. We are reminded that saints are alive and with us.

Today is the feast of Saint Joseph of Cupertino, a Franciscan frier who lived in the 1600s. Saint Joseph was given the gift of levitation while praying and ironically is the patron saint of Aviation. Let us love God like Saint Joseph of Cupertino.

Today’s readings talk about anger and forgiveness. Anger is not something that we really need to work at feeling, but forgiveness is something that takes work to accomplish. In the first readings we are reminded to not let anger rule us.

Today is the feast of both Saints Pope Cornelius and Bishop Cyprian of Carthage, martyrs of the Church. Even though they never met, they communicated by letter about whether people who renounce the faith under pain of death can be forgiven.

Today is the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Father Kubicki talks about the seven sorrows of Mary which are recounted in the bible and invites us to join him in prayer with a special meditation on these seven sorrows and how we can unite ourselves with her pain.

Today is the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross of Christ. Father Kubicki reads some words from Pope Francis about the reason for why we celebrate the Cross. If we keep our gaze fixed on Jesus, the sting of evil can no longer have power over us.

Today is the feast of Saint John Chrysostom, a man who preached about the heart of Jesus around the year AD 400. The Sacred Heart of Jesus was known in the bible long before devotion to the Sacred Heart was revealed to Saint Margaret Mary.

Today is the feast of the Holy Name of Mary. Father Kubicki shares the origin of this feast day. Father Kubicki reads some words from Saint John XXIII about the power of the Holy Name of Mary as well as the Rosary which she gave us for our benefit.

Today is the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our nation known as 9/11. Right after the attacks happened people struggled with keeping their faith. But suffering such as what happened on 9/11 can be used by God to wake us up.

In today’s readings for the Church, we see one of the most common sins of omission, which is not doing something which you are supposed to do. If we don’t warn others of the dangers of living immorally, we will be liable just as they are to the flames of hell.

Today is the feast of Saint Peter Claver, a great Jesuit priest who became a missionary in Colombia in South America. Saint Peter served the slaves who were brought to Colombia. Let us like Saint Peter Claver humble ourselves for the love of Jesus.

Today we celebrate the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of God. We only celebrate three birthdays in the Church, Jesus and Saint John the Baptist being the other two. Father Kubicki shares some words from Pope Benedict to Mary after his election to the papacy.

Today’s Gospel, from Luke Chapter 5, recounts how Peter caught an abundance of fish by following Jesus’ command. Father Kubicki shares some words from Pope Saint John Paul II about us needing to go deeper in our lives like how Peter put out into the deep.

In today’s Gospel, from Luke chapter four, we hear about how the demons who Jesus exorcised would say that He was the son of God and Jesus would rebuke them. Father shares several explanations which may help us understand why Jesus told them to be silent.

Today is the feast of Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Father Kubicki shares a prayer from Saint John Henry Newman which Saint Mother Teresa, along with her sisters, would recite every day. Like Saint Mother Teresa let us be Christ to others.

Happy Labor Day! People often think of work as something to be avoided, but Father Kubicki shares how labor is built into the fabric of creation as noted in the book of Genisis. Work should be directed to the goal of bring forth something new, new life.

In today’s reading, from the Gospel of Matthew, Peter is rebuked by Jesus for not thinking as God thinks but rather how human beings think. Father Kubicki shares some words from Pope Benedict about this reading and how we must carry the cross with Jesus.

As we enter Labor Day weekend let us celebrate work which is so important in God’s eyes. Father Kubicki shares words from the catechism about work as a means of sanctification. Don’t forget to offer God our works and prayers alike.

Today is the feast of Saint Jeanne Jugan, the founder of the Little Sisters of the poor. This religious order serves the elderly in their midst, aside from the three normal vows the Little Sisters of the Poor also take a fourth vow which Father Kubicki shares.

Today is the feast of the passion of Saint John the Baptist, cousin of Jesus who announced the coming of Jesus. Father Kubicki shares a story of his first-time teaching on this day which used to be known as the beheading of John the Baptist.

Today is the feast of Saint Augustine of Hippo, a great theologian and doctor of the Church. Father Kubicki reads some words from the Confessions of Saint Augustine, a book where Saint Augustine writes about his life and love for God.

In the Gospel at Mass today we hear about Saint Peter’s profession of faith in Jesus as the Christ, in turn Jesus changes Peter’s name and places him as the rock of the Church. Let us profess with Peter that he is the son of the living God.

Today is the feast of Mary Queen of Poland under the title of Queen of Czestochowa. Mary was with the Apostles in the upper room and prayed with them. Father Kubicki reads some words from Pope Benedict about Mary’s vital role in the life of the Apostles, and ours today.
