Pastor Carl acknowledges that our verses today introduce a difficult conversation.  In recent history, these verses have been used to bludgeon and ostracize fellow believers from communities of faith. Tactfully, Pastor Carl addresses the weight of these verses, and their importance, and has listeners consider these verses anew.

Pastor Carl continues our exploration of Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, as Paul provides guidance about how to be the faithful church of Christ in the 21st century.

In our service today, we were joined by our Persian Church partners who participated in worship leading, sharing the work of God in their midst, prayer, and communion.  Pastor Carl uses this partnership as a platform to consider Thanksgiving in light of the danger that the Persian Church congregants face in accepting Christ.  

As Pastor Ruth reminds us, discerning God's will is difficult, yet, as we read in 1 Corinthians 2, attaining the mind of Christ is a goal of ours as Christians.  Pastor Ruth talks to Fort Garry MB Church about this and about a way forward in this.

Cam Priebe, Provincial Director for the Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba, comes to Fort Garry to help us consider the Gospel message in the contexts we work and play.  He highlights that the cross, the central message of the Christian Gospel is foolishness to many, but holds power for those who believe in its message.

 Paul’s first order of business in 1 Corinthians is to address the quarrels and divisions that were happening in the church. He points out just how foolish the arguments over which leader is best really are. As we enter the fall season and a new ministry season, Pastor Carl prepares the congregation for a study of the book of 1 Corinthians, highlighting how issues of divisiveness in the Corinthian Church were managed by Paul to beautiful ends.  

In our final sermon of our series God Among the Nations, Jesse uses the story of Naaman, from 2 Kings 5, to have us consider the level of dependency we have on God, and the level of dependency we have on one another.

Abraham is evidence that God can and does call anyone to participate in God's work on earth.  There were many disqualifying characteristics in Abraham, yet God still used Abraham to build a nation of God's children.

In the conclusion to our Together series, Pastor Carl emphasizes the role of a church community's 'being' together in shared activities and shared expressions of faith, that begin in our breaking of the bread together as a church.

Pastor Carl has us consider what it means to serve, and the many opportunities that fall before us as Christians and as a corporate body to serve those in our midst.
