Job 17:1-16. What if Job's hope goes to the grave with him? Could that be? John 7:14-31. The people are divided about Jesus, the significance of His learning and His miracles, and whether He could possibly be the messiah.

Job 16:1-22. Job's friends are "miserable comforters", and God seems to hate him. Yet "even now," Job cries out to God! John 7:1-13. Jesus' brothers taunt Him, and the people in Jerusalem are divided about Him.

Job 15:1-23, 30-35. Eliphaz heaps scorn on a man they once thought was a just and good man. Why? John 6:60-71. The conclusion of John 6, which provides rich instruction on the sacramental understanding of the workings of the Holy Spirit through the Word to give life.

Job 14:1-22. If only Job could know that one day God would answer him! He would wait, however long! John 6:41-59. From eating bread to manna to words of life to Jesus the bread of life to Christ's own flesh to eating Christ's flesh -- it's all about the stuff of life!

Job 13:13-28. "Though He slay me, I will hope in Him." A tremendous statement of faith in the midst of the darkness of Job's pain and confusion. John 6:22-40. Ironically, the people demand a sign like the manna that Moses gave--seemingly oblivious to the fact that Jesus had just done that very thing before their eyes!

Deuteronomy 6:10–25, Moses summarizes the timeless moral law for all those who would live with God. Matthew 9:18–38, in Yesterdays reading, Jesus brought forgiveness. In today’s reading, he brings release from all of our afflictions: from death, sickness, blindness, from every kind of disease!

Eccl. 8:1-17, There's an awful lot we don't know and can never know. But there are some things we can take to the bank! John 9:1-23, the man born blind. Jesus ends his ongoing argument with the scribes and Pharisees as only He can!

Ecclesiastes 7:11–29, try to be good, but don’t overdo it. You are, after all, a sinner. Let God save you. John 8: 39–59, to know the father means to know Jesus. And, “before Abraham was, I am!”

Ecclesiastes 6:1–7:10, wisdom and seeing, wealth and appetite, and the sadness of the wise. John 8:21–38, if you abide in my word, you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

Ecclesiastes 5:1–20, fear God, trust in God, and beware the liabilities which accompany wealth. John 8:1–20, “neither do I forgive you; and from now on sin no more“.

Ecclesiastes 4:1-16, a cold hard look at some realities of life in this world. John7:32–53, the division among the people at hearing Jesus speak: could this be the Christ? Doesn’t the Christ come from Bethlehem?

What the world thinks of the people of God, then, and now.

The dramatic contrast between the Christian and pagan concepts of prayer and magic, and all attempts to control supernatural forces.

The place between the cherubim above the atonement cover, which sat on the ark in the holy of holies;Jesus of Nazareth; and the holy sacrament.

What even Moses couldn’t do, Jesus did. He earned it.

The parable of the 10 Minas: do or do not. One’s wrong, but either makes sense. But don’t say you’ll do, and then do nothing.

Unlike fire, which always burns when we touch it, sin doesn’t always result in some kind of a physical or perceptible consequence. But the scripture puts us on notice, what sort of things will earn the Lord’s wrath, and what sorts of things earn the Lord’s favor.

When we question our own worthiness for the kingdom of God, or fear the power of our enemies in this world, we are perceiving real things. Our enemies really are stronger than us, and our sins really do make us unworthy of the kingdom of God. But if God isfor us, what difference does that make?

The persistent widow prayed for justice; the tax collector prayed for mercy; we need both, and we pray for both.

What God shows and what God hides.

Jesus and the Scriptures teach us how it all will end, who the winners and losers will be, what will last and what will not. tank comfort, Christians! Because it won’t always look that way.
