The Yates County Sheriff's Department has kept the peace for over 200 years. The Sheriff's Department was honored with a proclamation for Sheriffs Week at this month's county legislature meeting.

However, as storms grow in power, it may not be enough that the state is bracing these communities. With sea levels expected to rise, numerous areas across the state could fall victim to more severe flooding.

According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, the number of patients younger than 18  increased by about 1%  between 2020 and 2021. However, the number has fluctuated since 2017.

A report showed 423 schools are without social workers, while most of the schools with at least one social worker do not meet the recommended ratio of one social worker to every 250 students. Rural school districts are seeing a retention problem since they cannot afford to compete with their urban counterparts.

It's the church Harriet Tubman attended when she came to Auburn.  The church was purchased by the National Park Service as part of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, which opened in 2017.

The county received a grant four years ago, but it wasn't enough to take care of all the systems that needed repair or replacement. The county has applied for $400,000 in this round of funding.
