At the Table 03.01.2016
“The LORD is my portion and my cup.” What do you get when you come to the Supper, you compromised, double-hearted, double-minded, befouled cur? The Triune God of grace himself is your portion. One drop would be beyond an eternity of deserving, but he pours in the unending wine of his presence. The cup overflows. The cup of salvation. Christ drank down the dregs of my sin and passed back the chalic...

Ready to Eat! 24.12.2015
God does not usually act with the magic we longed for as children. But he does act: To end the deep loneliness we feel. To heal us from within. To turn our hearts from bitterness to love. To give us hope in the face of death that we can live eternally.
Joy to the World 20.12.2015
We are called to prepare room in our hearts for Christ. To set loose our songs in praise. To choke off the sins that entangle us. To dig up the thorns that pierce people in our society and relationships. To speak sharply to the sorrow that wants to swallow us as we bid our hearts rejoice in the one who alone is the source of abiding joy. We do all these things as we lift up our voices and sing wit...
O Little Town 13.12.2015
The hope for the world is realized through personal reception of the gift of the savior. It’s not the other way around. We don’t wait for the world to get right before we have personal hope. Rather, individual, personal faith in what God has done through the child of Bethlehem alone gives us hope for how the history of the entire world will turn out. If we pin our hopes on electing the right perso...
What Would It Take to Get You Quiet!? 06.12.2015
Silence you voice in awe! For we do not need to fear the silence. God is there. And he speaks. And what he says is Love.
A Rose in the Desert 29.11.2015
This Flower, whose fragrance tender with sweetness fills the air, Dispels with glorious splendor the darkness everywhere; True man, yet very God, from sin and death He saves us, And lightens every load. For we know the sweet power of his presence. His fragrance with sweetness fills the air. This aroma of a savior clears the room of gloom. He dispels with glorious splendor that darkness everywhere....

What is Faith? 18.10.2015
Faith is simply the rope that ties us to Christ. But if that rope is not anchored on Jesus, it’s worthless. If our confidence is in our ability to make sense of everything, we will be disappointed. And if our confidence is in our own ability to have faith, we don’t have much to hold onto. Our confidence must be in Jesus.
Faith of Our Fathers 18.10.2015
Fully entrusting ourselves to the one in whom we have placed our trust, is perhaps the most difficult part of our Christian faith. It means giving him who we are. It means not withholding but deferring to him as the Lord of everything in our lives. It can be a scary thing.
The New and Living Way 11.10.2015
Faced with such a stark, eternal choice, every believer would say, “I pick Jesus!” So why do we live every day as if we could set aside the sacrifice Jesus made and build our own kingdom? Why do we get bored with the idea of his blood making us holy and stop pursuing him? Hebrews’ encouragement to draw near with confidence is not given as a marketing tool in hopes that I might decide to buy the Je...
