First Issue Club Comic Books

The entire club skipped town for the 4th to spend time with our families, so while we couldn't record a regular episode, comic book reading must go on! Because of this important rule of life, Mike D recorded an emergency voicemail episode where he breaks down his top four first issues of last week. This week The Club takes a breaks from comics to celebrate 100 episodes with 100 minutes of non-sense. Highlights include, but aren't limited to: our first sponsor, parody songs, call-ins, commentary on our first episode, DC cover prices, regrets, emotions, thank you's, and what's next.

On Episode 99 The club spends the entire episode diving into DC Black Label's Superman Year One! Frank Miller - love him or hate him, we get into it. This is so much Superman stuffed into one episode that it made it's way into a special One Shot Episode!

In this episode the club discusses whats up with DC's Vertigo imprint, before getting into Silver Surfer Black from Marvel Comics, and Sonata out on Image Comics. We also question wether we've gone too far as Marvel "True Believers", and argue over Bruce Springsteens new album, because why not?

Thumbs (Image) imagines a cyber punk heaven. Ignited (Humanoids) comes out on brand new publisher and has a power house team in Waid & Osajefyo.

This week in the Club, we get into Batman news and the new #1, "Batman: Last Knight on Earth", as well as "Killer Groove" and its nostalgic noir.

The club fumbles over the title of IDW's new ROAD OF BONES, and ultimately find ourselves miles from our own road of cohesive conversation.

This week, FIC takes on WoTR double-time team-ups (hereby known as DTTUs) in "Spider-Man and the League of Realms" and "Giant Man" (which should really be called "Giant Men").

Agents of Atlas (Marvel) bringing in an all new amazing Asian fighting team and Excellence (Image) with a better, fresher more relevant Harry Potter! Plus some new sponsors!

As is typical, the club devolves quickly when Kaitlyn can't attend, and we lose track of our decency and get off topic quickly. Even still, we think there is just the right amount of DCeased and Savage Avengers discussed in this episode. Enjoy!

Faithless is all the pervy magic Boom! Could fit in a comic. Fair Lady is Columbo for Middle Earth. Comics literally don't get better! The club gets in it and even talks Hellboy with the latest in comic news. It's First Issues being read and discussed in podcast form. Now it's time to take my horse to the old town road.

This week, the club members have a spoily-free Captain Marvel convo, talk trailers with Avengers: Endgame, and get into reviews on "Magnificent Ms. Marvel" and "Assassin Nation".

First, Marvel's MEET THE SKRULLS introduces us to an alien spy family trying to keep a low profile while infiltrating Stark Inc, while our second book, Dark Horse's ASTRO HUSTLE, takes us on a 1970s inspired Flash Gordon style romp featuring a band of space pirates with a deck full of the CUTEST animal buccaneers. Avast ye! Adventures are abound!

This week….love is the enemy with "Age of X-Man: X-Tremists" and "The Forgotten Queen" gives us a tale of bloodshed through the ages.

The club covers Sharkey the Bounty Hunter (a future Netflix show) and High Level (vertigo). Everything you want to know about comics and everything you didn't, it's comics y'all - they al fun!

In this variant edition, we discuss "My Boy Friend Is A Bear" in which a woman falls in love and begins a relationship with a bear. No…not a metaphorical bear…an actual freaking bear.

It's a yuckfest this week folks. "Wyrd" isn't quite weird enough, "Unit 44" is great…if you're a child…"Age of X-Men Alpha" primes our wallets to spend bank on more x-men books, and "Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt" rips "Watchmen". But you know what…we still had a blast reading and talking about em cause comics rule.

This week…the club gets nostalgic with Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Plus, one of our favorite characters gets inducted into the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Our own Mike DiStasi joins the What's In A Game podcast to talk about Marvel's Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and basically everything Spider-Man. Did we say Spider-Man enough times?
