On the night Jesus was born, the heavens declared: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11). Jesus’ birth is good news for the world. His presence in our lives gives us reason to celebrate, to be joyous, in the midst of a culture plagued with the brokenness...

For the past 2,000 years, Satan has done everything possible to stop the mission of Jesus’ church. He has used persecution, pressure, politics, and even pandemics to do so. But in spite of our enemy’s best efforts, all of the powers of Hell have been unable to stop Jesus’ mission. At First Church, we’re convinced God isn’t finished doing unstoppable things in and through us. As we enter a new seas...

Is there anything you wish you could tell your younger self? Tucked away at the end of the Bible are three letters written by John, one of Jesus’ closest friends and followers, addressed to a new generation of Christians. At this point in John’s life, he’d been serving Christ for over 60 years. In spite of persecution, hardship, and difficulties, John’s faith had remained strong. His letters, whic...

What comes to mind when you think about the church? Jesus says, when you follow Me, you will be “filled with my joy” and “your joy will overflow!” The church is God's community where the joy of Heaven invades the sadness of earth. No matter what happens in the world around us, the empty tomb gives us reason to celebrate. Hopelessness is a lie. Pain is temporary. Darkness is defeated. And we’re cal...

Let’s face it, life is full of hurdles. Just because we follow Jesus doesn’t mean we’re exempt from facing them. In fact, Jesus plainly tells us: “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33, NIV). However, the hurdles we face are not too big for Him. As we run the race of life God’s way, He’ll give us strength and wisdom to clear the hurdles in front of us. That’s why Jesus also teaches: “Bu...
