Suffering is part of God’s plan. His Son had to go through it, and so must we. I wish I could tell you otherwise, but Scripture, and the life of our Savior, don’t allow for that. But we can accept that difficult truth knowing that our God is good and our suffering is not in vain. So let me ask you one final time: Do you want to follow Jesus?

God’s judgment is perfect. Our judgment is tainted by self-interest. We are to judge by God’s standard and not our own. That means we can and should judge external behavior against God’s perfect standard but we can’t judge internal motives because we can’t know them.

This message should be freeing. If you’ve been worried or anxious about a fork in the road or some other major decision, you can rest easy. If you seek to love God and love others, you cannot make a bad decision. As long as you seek to glorify God with your life, you will be okay.

I believe the caring impulse of Jesus-loving Christians who entertain the belief that all roads lead to God is a desire that no one perishes. The good news is that God has the same desire, and he’s made it possible for all to have life.

Freedom is often confused with autonomy. Auto = self, nomos = law. And I want to be free from all authority but my own. I want what I want when I want it. The very first recorded lie was that Adam and Eve could be their own gods and call their own shots – accountable to no one. We are still living with the disastrous consequences of believing that lie and it is still with us. It begins at birth.

Why is the love of money considered the root of evil? There are some other pretty good candidates out there - pride, lust, envy? Why money? What Paul is saying is that all the evils in the world come from a certain kind of heart, namely, the kind of heart that loves money.
