As you reflect on 2024 and look forward to 2025, find comfort in God’s promises and taste his goodness when God is faithful to appoint affliction.

After thousands of years since the sin in the garden cursed humanity, the New Testament opens, alerting people that the promise of salvation has come. Jesus the Messiah is born! Come behold the wondrous mystery as we explore the intricacies of God’s plan and adore His promise delivered!

Though it seemed as if Israel’s sin might derail God‘s plan for salvation, God’s determination to save people from their sin was made even more clear.

Does it feel like God’s promises are slow to develop? The promise made to Israel took thousands of years to transpire. Yet, God gave his people assurances through the ages that he would be faithful to his promise. They just needed to be patient and continue to trust in him.

Jesus’s coming was the fulfillment of a promise made to Adam and Eve thousands of years prior, highlighting the faithfulness of God.

What is one important valuable you have lost? Remember how hard you searched for it? So also, James exhorts us to seek the lost and share the truth with them so that they might be saved.

It can be hard to be patient. So, what is the fuel that helps us persevere?

As Christians, how can we leverage our wealth for the kingdom of God?

How can we plan for the future, while not presuming we have ultimate control?

James continues to carry a sharp sword with his cutting words in chapter 4. Friendship with the ways of the world is like committing adultery against God.

The rust of the flesh, bitter jealousy and selfish ambition, will corrode us from the inside out. Why are these two things such dangers to us?

Bits in the mouths of horses, sparks of flame, and rudders on a ship. James adds one more to the list—the tongue. What do these things have in common? They’re small in size, but have huge, and sometimes devastating, effects.

It’s not enough to say you believe. It’s not enough to have a superficial belief. It’s not enough to just do good works. The Bible is consistent—we must have a proper belief, profession, and works. 

Oil and Water. Five Guys and a diet. Diesel and a gasoline car. These things are incompatible. So also is partiality and the church.

Can our religion really be ‘worthless?’ That is a strong word, but it’s intentional—it is designed to provoke us to action.

The antidote to a heart that is being lured into sin is a conviction of the unchanging goodness of God.

How are you leveraging the riches the Lord has given you for His glory?

Only with the Christian worldview can joy and trials truly coexist. The letter written by James explains how.
