Fatherly Advice

There are two things that have to be true for any of this Christianity stuff to make sense. 1. Jesus has to be who he says he is. 2. There has to be a reason we are all striving for at the end or nothing we do here matters. 

This weeks homily was the closing Mass for the high school youth retreat known as "The Rez". 

In this week's homily we look at someone who endure a life of hardship and terrible circumstances, yet still managed to always have a joyful disposition because of her love for God.  God still loves us when bad things happen, its up to us to choose to love him back in spite of difficult times. 

By nature I am extremely lazy. I often ask what is the least amount of something I can do and still bring about a good end. Im no different when it comes to faith. I often find myself asking, what is the least amount of effort required to receive a miracle? Today's gospel provides us with the answer. 

Every week at Mass people like to throw up different gang signs. Sometimes its because they are lazy and sometimes its because they dont know any better. 

Being a good steward with what Jesus has given us in all things. And sometimes this means things need to change. 

The people of Israel give in to idolatry, the Psalm prays for a new heart, Paul is thankful that he's no longer arrogant, and Jesus talks about sheep in the Gospel. What does this have do with an alcoholic? more than you might think. 

There are so many decisions we have to make during a single day that it can sometimes be overwhelming knowing if we made a good choice or not. If only there was a tool that we could use to know God's will for us. Well you're in luck, there is. 

It seems every year there is more for us to do and less time to do it in. How do I know how to fill my precious time with? What if everything in life seems important, how do I decide what truly is? 

Whats the craziest thing you've ever done for your health? What if the benefits were really good but it was quite challenging? Whats the craziest thing you've ever done for the health of your soul? 

What does it mean to be an expert in your field? How many hours does it take to become an expert? what does being an expert Catholic look like? It's not secret the things we spend our time on is what we truly love, so what does your life say you love? 

In the 18th Sunday of Ordinary time, we have readings that speak about making sure we are not too attached to earthly things. Do we have a proper relationship with death? do we pray for a happy death? Why do catholics care so much about death? 

Do you ever worry that you aren't working hard enough? Do you feel like you aren't praying enough or you aren't holy enough? How much is enough? This week we look at what happens when we are doing everything we can and it still isn't enough... or is it?

Ever encounter someone who, for better or worse, just blurts out what comes to their head? How'd that work out for them? This week we look at St. Martha and her uncanny ability to put her foot in her mouth and then have the disciples write that down in the gospel. 

What does it take to achieve your flow state? What is flow? A Catholic look at what being in Flow is all about. 

In this weeks homily we look at the difference between crossfit and the gospel. How come we are so willing to talk about one and so afraid to talk about the other. Cross fit will get you in shape, but you cant burpee your way to heaven. 

Does the world need another Podcast? Probably not. But we made one anyway! Our first inaugural podcast made all about Catholic fatherhood. If you like it stay tuned because we have plenty more to say! 

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year C) You're a SINNER! And so am I. Thank God he left us the sacrament of Confession.  I speak of the joy of hearing confessions as a new priest as I introduce myself to my first priestly assignment in Hampton Va.
