Fathering Our Future

We all try to avoid failure but the truth is, it is inevitable. We are all going to fail, multiple times, and that is ok. However, we cannot be ok with failing because our decisions do not just impact us. How we deal with failure will have a huge impact on our kids. So what will you do when you fail?

As dads we can easily demand respect from our kids. Truth be told, we should be respected because we are dads but there is still another side to respect that we often neglect when it comes to our kids. I'll tell you something that you already know but it will make you think about something you've not considered before.

Too often we allow the opinions of others to influence us. Most of the time, those opinions aren't even real. I want to remind you to stop living for everyone else and to start living for the ones who actually care about you.

You know that you love your kids but is it always clear to them? I not only want to remind of you of two obvious things you can do but I also want to challenge you to try something that will make it abundantly clear to your kids that you love them.

Too often we fool ourselves into believing that we can get through it on our own. Today I want to tell you that you cannot. We were designed to be in community. It is in that place of community that we find the comfort, support, and answers we are looking for as dads. So let me tell you how to get there.

We all want time to ourself to do our own thing but that is not what I mean by daddy time. Daddy time is time for you that creates a shift and difference in you for the benefit of your family. I want to chat about laziness, impatience, and aggression, and how some daddy time might be just what you need.

What do you think it means to be a dad? There are a lot of qualities and attributes that are great to have as a dad, but what embodies the identity of a dad? I'll tell you what it is and how it looks.

We all know time keeps moving and often it feels impossible to keep up. Chin up, dad. It doesn't matter what you have done with your time up to this point because while you may have regrets, time is still a gift.

Our kids are going to face so many changes and challenges, but we have a tremendous opportunity to help them navigate it all. We can accomplish this if we will work on preparing them and also by doing some preparation ourselves. I'll discuss some of the things you can implement now to help prepare your kids for the road ahead.

We always have expectations and that holds true with our kids. We think the world of them and want them to be so much more than we ever were. Sometimes we allow those desires to shape our expectations of them and we forget some obvious basics. This is a friendly reminder of those obvious basics so you can keep them in mind when framing expectations of your kids.

It is a popular discussion topic, sometimes the subject for debate, but it is often a question that parents wrestle with in their minds. Should we focus on spending more time with our family or should we focus on spending time trying to make money? You might not be thinking of the question the right way.
