Epiphany This week we look at Matthew's parody of empire, where client kings pay homage to Jesus rather than the Emperor.

Holy Family and Holy Innocents We draw links between the massacre in Bethlehem, its Old Testament precursor, and the consequences of empire throughout history.

The Christmas Vigil We take a look at Matthew's genealogy, this much skipped text is much more interesting than we might at first imagine.

4th Sunday of Advent, year A. Finally we have an actual Christmas reading. The gospel presents Joseph in the guise of an earlier Joseph, and gives us a quote from Isaiah which inspires resistance to empire.

2nd Sunday of Advent, year A. We meet John the Baptist on the banks of the Jordan river.

It's the first Sunday of Advent, and the beginning of lectionary year A! Matthew introduces us to the context and themes of Matthew's gospel, and takes a brief look at this weekend's reading, Matt 24:37-44.

This week we're looking at Luke 19:1-10, (passing over the All-Saints' reading (Matt 5:1-12), because we'll hear this reading again on 1st February). We meet the chief tax collector Zacchaeus. who climbs a tree to see Jesus.

30th Sunday in ordinary time, year C. We meet the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.

29th Sunday in ordinary time, year C. This week Matthew talks about the persistent widow and the unjust judge.
