The Holy Spirit is our Helper. He, like Christ, has come into the world to assist us in the life that God the Father has called us to live. The Holy Spirit has been called alongside a group of imperfect humans to help and assist them in the work of Christ. Let us be more mindful of His eagerness to help. He never takes a day off!

The primary mission of a church service where new believers and unsaved people are present is to help them understand the Word of God. Interestingly, the words “understand,” “understood,” and “understanding” appear nine times in 1 Corinthians 14. That is an emphasis that cannot be ignored. God does not want people to leave church in confusion!

Acts 2:4 “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” They, (the 120 believers seated in the room,) is the subject of the sentence. Since God knows all things, the utterance we pray is not mysterious to Him; it is a mystery to our minds. Our spirits do not have these same limitations because the person who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies (builds up, strengthens) his spirit. Our spirits know things before we grasp them with our minds.

During the first manifestation of speaking with tongues, there was no need for the interpretation of tongues. The Jews who had come from the various regions of the world understood the words that were spoken, although the Galilean speakers did not! It is no wonder that we are edified when we speak in unknown tongues (in our private devotions) because we are declaring the great and wonderful works of God. God chose to include the prophecies of both Hannah and Mary in His Word to this very purpose.

Praying in the Spirit can be better understood if we take a closer look at the simple gift of prophecy. Prophecy does not always foretell the future. There are many places in the scriptures where believers prophesied, but gave little or no revelation about coming events. The prophecy of Hannah in 1 Samuel 2:1-10 is a great example. Most people assume that the gift of prophecy is the ability to foretell the future, but the scriptures do not support that idea. Miriam, the sister of Moses and Aaron, was a prophetess, but the word she gave to Israel after the Red Sea miracle merely rehearses what God had already done.

In this life, ungodly people appear to do well and seem to get by with their unrighteous behaviors. Those of us who have an acute sense of justice grieve when the ungodly prosper. David had many occasions in his life when the ungodly people around him prospered and thrived during his times of struggle.

In my mind, fruit-bearing is like the receiving of a great victory or an answered prayer. We don’t receive answers to prayer every day, but we can be blessed even when we are waiting for our faith to materialize.

God leads us to places of corporate worship where the rivers of living water flow. Too many of His children are struggling to find water in the wilderness where the supply is broken and intermittent. Let the Lord plant you in His house so you can become everything you are capable of!

The blessed man takes great delight in the Word of the Lord. He sees the Word as a precious and valuable thing. Shallow believers speak of God, but the blessed man continually speaks of the Word. He understands that the Word is God speaking to us. He values the written Word over his own feelings and inclinations. Both his actions and his attitudes are radically altered.

If you are going to walk with God, you must guard your mind and heart from three destructive influences. These three negative characters appear in descending order: the ungodly, then the sinner, finally the scornful. All are without God, but there are degrees of unrighteousness revealed here.

There are six comparisons on this list, but the fear of the Lord is not like the other five. The fear, or respect, of the Lord is the effect that the other five have on us as we observe them. The laws of God are not just a set of rules; they are the revealing of His ways. You cannot have a deep relationship with a person without knowing their ways. God has ways of thinking, and He reveals those ways in His written Word. The index finger is the finger that we use to indicate direction. It is associated with “the way.”

The laws of the Lord, the testimonies of the Lord, the commandments of the Lord, the fear of the Lord, and the judgments of the Lord are a perfect representation of the human hand! God shows us His handiwork in creation but extends His hand to us through the written Word.

David tells us that though there is no audible communication, the heavens preach a message to the entire world, showing the handiwork of God. The twelve constellations that we know today as the zodiac were recognized in the ancient world. Psalm 103:6 says that vindication is a benefit for those who walk with God. Obviously, this blessing does not fall on everyone because it is conditional. It is a benefit that must not be forgotten.

This passage reveals one of the greatest blessings of God - renewal in old age. God is faithful to His children in every stage of life. His blessings allow us to be younger than our years. Too many people age prematurely, and much of the reason is due to an incorrect mental attitude. Only God can help us to counter this.

"Bless the Lord, O my soul: and forget not all His benefits...who satisfies thy mouth with good things" (Ps. 103: 2, 5). We pass more words through our lips than we pass bites of food...the keyword in verse five is “satisfies.”

Favor belongs to us even as we are persecuted for righteousness’ sake. Don’t expect everyone you meet to treat you unfavorably!

God's loving promise to redeem His people from destruction is not often addressed in the church today. Many people are entirely ignorant of what God promised to us in this area.

Divine healing is a benefit that we are prone to forget. If it came to us with no faith on our part, how should we forget it? The admonition not to forget His benefits tells us that we must be ever mindful of His blessings if we are to enjoy them.

Christ’s sacrifice once and for all dealt a death blow to the power of sin that had gripped the whole world from the time of Adam. Followers of Christ are not merely adherents to a doctrine; they are literally re-born in the inner chambers of the heart.
