What is the living hope that we have from God and in Jesus Christ

We are given the ability by God to obey him from heart. We are now a slave to righteousness because we belong to God. We are under his grace, but that grace brings the charge to obey God in our lives.

We are not to let sin reign in us or be our master. We belong to Jesus and he has given us the power and ability to fight sin. The old self has been crucified in Christ.

If we are in Jesus Christ, we share in his death. The Bible describes the 'old self' as being crucified. We will share in Jesus' future resurrection. Just as Jesus is now alive in his resurrection, so we too should walk in a new life.

When we are saved, we become partakers in all the benefits of Christ. We are "baptized into him." God's grace and forgiveness does not mean that we can go on sinning but that we now have new life in Christ and should live as such.

Paul describes as all people being in Adam and under death and sin because of their union with Adam. Adam's on act brought death and sin into the world. Christ's one act brings righteousness and life for those who are "in Christ" and have a relationship with Christ.

God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. By the work of Christ we are reconciled to God. If we are reconciled we do not have to fear the wrath of God. We will be delivered.

If we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, not only have we been justified before God but we have peace with God. This peace gives us a confident hope so that we can rejoice both in the coming glory of God and the present trials we might face. Often times God uses trials to strengthen our faith.

How does faith save us? How are we reckoned righteous? The reason we can be saved through faith is because of the one in whom we place our trust. We are saved through faith because of the work of Jesus Christ. Faith receives salvation and the gift of righteousness.

Abraham is given the promise that he and his descendants will inherit the world. The promise is to those of us who have faith like Abraham. The promise of salvation and inheriting all things comes by God's grace and is received by faith.

What does it mean that Abraham's faith was credited to him as righteousness? How is Abraham the father of all who have true faith?

Jesus was buried and rose again on the third day. Before his death he called this "the sign of Jonah". What does he mean? How is the resurrection a sign for us? The resurrection assures us of the coming judgment and because of the resurrection we are called to repent.

Jesus institutes the Lord's supper and calls the cup "the cup of the new covenant of his blood". Then when he is in the garden he asks God if it is possible to take away "this cup." For our Good Friday service, we look at the Biblical theme of the cup.

In explaining how justification is by faith alone, Paul looks at the example of Abraham in the Old Testament. Abraham is justified by faith apart from works. He then reminds us from one of David's Psalms the incredible blessing of being forgiven.

We are saved by faith apart from works of the Law. Our good deeds do not contribute to our justification. In facts, works our excluded from justification. This means that we are all equal before the foot of the cross.

Now in Christ, the righteousness of God has been revealed. All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory and are being justified through faith in Christ. God displays his righteousness both in judging sin and justifying those who have faith in Christ.

Paul describes all of us as under the bondage of sin. We do not seek God. We do not understand the ways of God. Our sin leaves us enslaved and helpless. We need Jesus Christ to set us free and rescue us.

God is faithful and righteous even when we are unfaithful and unrighteous. This does not mean we should go on sinning and living however we want.

Paul confronts the person who thinks that because they have the Law they are right with God. In fact, they break the Law and bring condemnation upon themselves. He then argues that the Christian Gentile who fulfills the Law through the Holy Spirit is the true spiritual "circumcised" person not the one who obeys the outward commands.

Paul gives us the principle of judgment: God judges us according to our works. We are saved only through faith in Christ. But how we lived this life will be judged. There are only two outcomes to the judgment: eternal life or condemnation. According to Paul's gospel God will judge the earth in Jesus Christ.

In this passage, Paul turns his attention to the sin of being judgmental. He rebukes those who judge sins in other people but are doing the very same things in their lives. If God has brought you to understand what sin is, His kindness was to lead you to repentance not to cause you to stand in judgment over others.

Having exchanged the truth of God for a lie, the Bible describes God has handing us over to sin. Sin grows and abounds as we suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

The Bible describes God's wrath against sin in handing us over to the sinful things we want. In our sin, we suppress the knowledge of God in unrighteousness. The knowledge of God is plain because God has made it plain but we reject it.
