In Mark 1:21-45 we see that Jesus is the Powerful, Popular, Prayed-up, Pitying Preacher. He is constantly seeking ways to serve the physical needs of the people without losing sight of his ultimate goal of meeting the spiritual need of everyone. Let us also not lose sight of the gospel that motivates us to serve others and make disciples.

What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus? As a church we want to make sure that we are striving for a quality of discipleship and not just quantity. As we continue through Mark chapter one we can see and follow the example of Jesus as he calls the disciples to follow him.

We are starting our new sermon series through the Gospel of Mark. We start in chapter 1 by asking the question, what happens if we misunderstand Jesus?  Misunderstanding Jesus can be the difference between life and death, joy and despair, truth and lies, meaning and purpose. Mark's writings will help us to understand and believe that Jesus is the Son of God. 

On this Reformation Sunday, we are thankful for how God preserved and used His Word, and we hope you grow in your appreciation for hearing these words every Sunday: "Let's open our Bibles."

How do we, as disciples of Jesus, handle our finances? How we view and how we use our money reveals what your heart values most. Disciples of Jesus view and use their finances through the wisdom found in God's Word.

We believe that God has called us to live our lives in uncommon community. In this community we also believe that God would have us serve each other. We will not be able to do this successfully unless we, as a church, thrive for a posture of service. This posture can change our perspective and help impact our church community.

By God's grace our church has been growing this year. Exciting as that may be, numbers do not automatically mean mature growth in our people. Are we fulfilling our mission to glorify God by making disciples? At the heart of our uncommon community is a deep desire and need for God's Word. The Bible is what we need if we're going to see mature disciples growing and multiplying at Harvest.

We are proud to live in Northern Virginia. Except for the traffic, we love it here. For everything that we love there is one thing that is universally difficult to find, and that is, community. Because of Jesus' work on the cross we are a part of the body of Christ. Because of Jesus you are part of this Uncommon Community, and we belong together.

Where are you looking for satisfaction? How would you finish this sentence, "If I could just have ______, then I'd be happy." Psalm 63 tells us where we should be looking for satisfaction in life. When we seek God and see Him, His glory is satisfying and it makes us sing. 

We love living in Northern Virginia. The diversity of culture and economy makes the DMV truly unique. Within our love for our community there is also a desire to see the lives of Northern Virginia transformed by the glory of God. God's glory is like a waterfall, overwhelming yet satisfying. When we experience His glory we will be changed.

Summer is sadly over but that only means that we have a new ministry to look ahead to with new visitors to our church. We have an axciting opportunity to create a culture of invitation that touches everyone we come in contact with. God will use our humility, love, and urgency to invite others to follow him.

The people of Ninevah repent and God withholds his wrath on the city. This should mean some kind of celebration from Jonah right? Wrong. Jonah has a spiteful heart. A spiteful, self-centered heart is sick. As he has throughtout the entire book, Jonah holds a mirror up to our lives and makes us examine our hearts.

When was the last time you're amazed by God? In Jonah chapter 3 we see God at work in an amazing way in the city of Ninevah. Today, God continues to give grace that none of us deserve. We need only repent to experience this amazing grace.

Acknowledge God's Discipline Call out to Him in Distress Live for His Dwelling Praise Him for Deliverance

When God is chasing, fleeing is foolish. When God is chasing, choose to fear Him.

Disobedience will always take you down. God pursues us when we're in a bad place.

Be Shiny...it's who you are. Be Shiny...it's what you do.

The world needs good news that Jesus can heal our poverty.

You can know the answer but still fail the test (25-29). You can follow religion but fail to love God (30-32). You can go beyond limits when you love like Jesus (33-37).

Settle down...God put you here. Seek the welfare of the city.
