Gen. 12:1-9 constitutes "The Call of Abram." In vv. 1-3 we see 1) The Call. In v. 1 we started looking at a) The Source of the Call, and b) the Subject of the Call. Now, we finish up, looking at c) The Content of the Call. This divides into two sections: i) the command and ii) the promise. We get an in-depth look at the 5-fold aspect of that promise in today's episode.

Gen. 12:1-9 constitutes "The Call of Abram." In vv. 1-3 we see 1) The Call. In v. 1 we started looking at a) The Source of the Call, and b) the Subject of the Call. Now, we continue, looking at c) The Content of the Call. This divides into two sections: i) the command and ii) the promise. We only get through the command in this episode.

As we continue the discussion of "What's In a Name?" from vv. 11-32, we noted in vv. 11-26, 1) The Line of Shem. Now, in vv. 27-32 we see, 2) The Line of Terah and discuss some of the implications of it.

What's in a name? That's the question that the rest of this chapter addresses and it really serves to instruct the nation of Israel so that they know their own heritage and genealogy. In vv. 10-26 we track 1) The Line of Shem.

In 11:1 we looked at the fact that 1) The declaration of one language is a neutral statement. Then, in vv. 2-4 we saw that 2) A Heart Problem is revealed. Now, in vv. 5-8 we see 3) Divine Intervention and Judgment. And in v. 9 - 4) Epilogue

As we continue to look at the function of chapters 10-11 we noted that there are multiple purposes: 1) Israel might know the history of their enemies. 2) That Israel might know how all the people got to various parts of the world. 3) That Israel might gain an appreciation for what would be revealed in Gen. 12:3 to Abraham.

Today, we begin the introduction to chapter 11 by discussing the reason that chapters 10 and 11 are here and what function they serve. The first reason that they're here is so 1) Israel might know the history of their enemies.
