Encounter the Truth

Through faithful teaching of the Scriptures, we seek to facilitate encounters with the truth of God’s Word – and ultimately, with the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Truth that came down from heaven. Our prayer is that those who do not yet know Jesus will come to a saving knowledge of the truth, that believers will be grounded in the truth, and that local churches will be encouraged in their witness to the truth.

The Christ of the Cross (Part 1 of 2) 22.10.2024

We are so naturally worldly in our thinking, both about Jesus and his mission, and about ourselves and our discipleship. While we would like to imagine that being a Christian will lead to worldly glory and comfort, Jesus calls us to see the centrality of the cross to his mission – and to understand the call of discipleship, to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow him.

The Christ Who Demands a Response (Part 2 of 2) 21.10.2024

It is not possible to engage with Jesus Christ and to make no response to him. Some will respond with skepticism; some will respond with questions, but a desire to know more; others will see him for who he is, and confess that he is the Christ, the Son of the living God. How will you respond to him?

The God Who Makes All Things New (Part 2 of 2) 17.10.2024

In the ministry of Jesus in the gospels, we see the new creation breaking into the old in a moment of miraculous wonder. The individual healings and the great feeding miracles point us to the ultimate outworking of the redeeming work of Jesus at the cross: all things will be made new. The sick will be restored in resurrection bodies; the hungry will feast at the marriage supper of the Lamb. Have w...

The King Who Judges the Heart (Part 2 of 2) 15.10.2024

In an apparently shocking contrast, Jesus calls out the religious insiders for hypocrisy and exposes their sin, while ultimately welcoming an outsider who comes to him in humble faith. He makes it clear that religious ritual is worthless as a means to cleanse from sin. Only humble faith in the Son of David has any power. Where have religion and ritual become a mask for sin in our lives? Are we cas...

The Son Who Rescues and Restores (Part 2 of 2) 11.10.2024

Neither the raging sea nor the incurable disease has any power when confronted by the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the One who walks on water and speaks peace to the fearful. He is the One whose touch brings healing from even the cruelest disease. And as we come to him with our hearts diseased by sin and our spirits oppressed by fear, he has power today to bring healing and wholeness.

The Lord Who Satisfies (Part 2 of 2) 09.10.2024

When we come to Jesus, he satisfies the deepest needs and longings of our soul. Here in these verses, Jesus has compassion on a needy crowd and provides for them from heaven. We see his heart of kindness, and his power to provide. His heart is the same today, and his power undiminished.

The Prophet Who Offends (Part 2 of 2) 07.10.2024

One of the great surprises of the ministry of Jesus is the way in which people took offense at his gracious teaching. Here in these verses we see Jesus rejected, and John the Baptist beheaded. So we should not be surprised if the world around us rejects the good news of Jesus Christ.

The Gift of Gospel Partnership (Part 2 of 2) 03.10.2024

There is no greater joy in the Christian life than living together in life-giving Christian community. There is no greater privilege in the Christian life than joining arms with brothers and sisters in the great work of the gospel. It is this privilege and joy that Paul models for us in his own networks of relationships – and then commends to each one of us.

Walking Prayerfully and Wisely (Part 2 of 2) 01.10.2024

What does it look like to live as those who represent Jesus Christ in the world? If we are his people, then we must learn to pray and walk and speak faithfully in his name, commending him and his gospel to the world in our everyday interactions.

Relating Together in Jesus' Name (Part 2 of 2) 27.09.2024

Jesus Christ calls us to a radically counter-cultural way of life—and to a radically counter-cultural new community. Belonging to Jesus—and representing him—has profound practical implications for relationships within the home and the workplace. The challenges of this are great, but the benefits are profound, and the beauty is unparalleled in the world around us.

Putting on the New (Part 2 of 2) 25.09.2024

In Christ, we are brought into a new kind of community—and called into a new way of relating to the people of God. These relationships are shaped by the gospel and enabled by God Himself. In these verses, Paul sets out a framework for healthy and life-giving Christian community. In an age where we see so much dysfunction within churches, here is a model we need to learn and a message we need to he...

Seeking Things Above (Part 2 of 2) 23.09.2024

Christians have died with Christ and been raised with Him—and that means a clean break with our old life. Our constant challenge is to live that reality, putting to death the old patterns of life and setting our sights on things above.

Liberated in Christ (Part 2 of 2) 19.09.2024

In every age, there will be those who insist that traditions, rules, and regulations are the key to pleasing God, but this is actually the heart of all worldly forms of religion. Paul sets out to remind us again that these things do not offer spiritual life—but that life is found only in Christ. Life is found not through rite and ritual, but through holding fast to Christ by faith.
