[PREVIEW] Bonfireside Chat 198: Dark Souls Card Game 09.01.2022 5:00
We seek to answer the question of whether or not this is a good Dark Souls tabletop adaptation, but the more pertinent question is whether or not what's special about Dark Souls can captured outside of video games. Steamforged made an attempt at a Dark Souls board game, and we don't really like it. However, they distilled its best parts into a faster card game, and it works a little better! Listen...

Everything To Guppy is a bite-sized, four-times weekly comedy/gaming podcast in which Gary Butterfield (Watch Out For Fireballs) and William Hughes (The A.V. Club) attempt to analyze every single item, boss, character, and concept in the rogue-lite video game The Binding Of Isaac. They manage to pull it off only slightly less than 50 percent of the time

Watch Out for Fireballs! 342: Super Mario Bros. 3 06.01.2022 1:38:46
We start the new year with an old classic, covering Super Mario Bros. 3. This was Nintendo's biggest effort on the NES, and it deserves its reputation. This episode concerns itself with comparing and contrasting Mario 3 with the rest of the series, talking about the things it introduces, and hitting the design principles of each of the game's eight worlds. ORB 63: A Very Venture Halloween 04.01.2022 48:49
A bittersweet episode about self discovery, the Venture Halloween special hits in a weird spot. It's technically supposed to be the second episode of the series, but its status as a special might make you ignore it. And that would be a mistake, because important lore stuff happens here. Special thanks to Joshua Jarett for our cover art, Gwen May for our theme song, and Brayton Cameron for being ou...

Abject Suffering 436: Desert Bus VR 03.01.2022 38:53
It's the video game version of "The Song That Never Ends", and ironically it ALSO pisses off bus drivers. A joke game created for an unreleased Penn and Teller prank game, Desert Bus has ascended from myth to meme to genuine charity hero. We talk a little about its history, then bag on how terrible road trips are.

ORB 62: From the Ladle to the Grave: The Shallow Gravy Story 28.12.2021 30:32
Season 5 begins with a short little special about everyone's favorite underdog, the band that came from nowhere: Shallow Gravy. This Behind the Music-style documentary walks us through the formation of the band that brought us the hit song "Jacket", and it's packed full of little jokes and fun references. Special thanks to Joshua Jarett for our cover art, Gwen May for our theme song, and Brayton C...
Abject Suffering 435: One Must Fall 2097 27.12.2021 37:07
One Must Fall 2097 is an illustration that the Console/PC gap cuts boths ways, depending on the genre. While the PC exceled at first person shooters and RPGs early on, it struggled with racing games and fighting games... though it's not like they didn't try. An early effort by Epic, this fighting game pits Dorito robots against each other, with different pilots you cannot see.
[PREVIEW] Bonfireside Chat 197: Bloodborne Comics, Concluded 26.12.2021 5:00
This week's Bonfireside Chat is about the remaining two Bloodborne comic volumes, "A Song of Crows" and "The Veil, Torn Asunder". Given the strong showing in the second volume, we had our hopes set pretty high. Unfortunately, these overly abstract stories are big on style but short on substance. "A Song of Crows" gives us some backstory on Eileen the Crow, and shows us what the process of going ma...

[PREVIEW] Unfilmable 34: Prince of Darkness 25.12.2021 5:00
We finish covering John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy" by looking at the 1987 horror film Prince of Darkness . The Catholic church has been hiding a terrible secret for millennia: the devil is real, he's trapped in a tube, and he's ready to break free. And it's up to a group of horny and creepy college students to learn his true nature and try to stop him. While this is our least favorite of the...

[PREVIEW] Exquisite Suffering 131: Butt-Ugly Martians: Zoom or Doom 24.12.2021 5:00
At least the title of the cartoon is accurate. CGI has been a blight on animation, generally, as the early 2000s wiped away most traditional 2D art and replaced it with cheap, hideous homunculi who vaguely gesture at each other while emitting wacky voices. And no show was more hideous than Butt-Ugly Martians. The cart racer based on it is pretty bad, too.
[PREVIEW] Adaptation Decay 57: A Pac and Poke Christmas 23.12.2021 5:00
This month we take a look at two Christmas specials: one from the Pac-Man cartoon, and one from the Pokemon anime. The Pac-Man cartoon remains as baffling and boring as always, relying on the same non-joke about "chomping" for its entire duration. Meanwhile, the Pokemon Christmas special, "Stantler's Little Helpers" is very cute, but slight. Somehow, both specials have the same plot: Santa injures...
